Project Manager

Mines Advisory Group
Full-time
On-site
Country: Ukraine
Organization: Mines Advisory Group
Closing date: 30 Nov 2025

The total starting package for this position is £58,365 GBP per annum (approx. $76,598USD) including basic salary and allowances.

About MAG:

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the role:

The Project Manager will play a key role in supporting MAG’s operations in Ukraine with a range of strategic, programme management, and external engagement responsibilities. In this position, you will help maintain strong relationships with national and local authorities, donors, UN agencies, partners, and other stakeholders, while also representing MAG at senior-level meetings as/when required.

You will contribute to identifying and developing opportunities to expand MAG’s work in Ukraine and collaborate closely with colleagues as part of the in-country Senior Management Team to ensure programmes are well planned, efficiently delivered, and clearly communicated. You will also lead a small team of programme staff, setting priorities, developing work plans, and monitoring performance.

This role is ideal for someone with solid humanitarian project management experience strong coordination and communication skills, and the ability to build good working relationships. You should be able to juggle the needs of multiple contracts and donors, lead a team confidently, and support effective programme delivery in a complex, changing environment.

About you:

You’ll bring solid programme management and coordination experience with the humanitarian sector (ideally with exposure to mine action), with a track record of leading mixed teams, building positive working relationships, and delivering high quality work in fast-moving, sometimes high-pressure environments. You should be comfortable representing MAG to donors, partners, and local authorities, and able to work openly and collaboratively with others.

Experience living and working overseas, ideally in complex or conflict settings is important. You’ll need to balance big-picture oversight with day-to-day practical work, and take a proactive, flexible, problem-solving approach. A genuine commitment to MAG’s mission and values matters. Your leadership will help strengthen relationships, increase impact, and support MAG’s work across Ukraine.

About the Ukraine programme:

Since the Russian invasion of 24th February 2022, Ukraine has been subjected to heavy artillery bombardment, missile, and air strikes, as well as the use of landmines and cluster munitions. The scale of the conflict and the use of high impact and indiscriminate weapons requires an urgent and extensive response. MAG responded to the crisis in 2022 and now employs nearly 440 staff in our Ukraine programme, in a range of operational and support/administrative activities, with further scale-up planned during 2026. The programme has a representation office in Kyiv, and operational offices in Mykolaiv (also covering accessible areas of Kherson) and Kharkiv.
