Job Role
The Ramming Mass / Refractory Assistant supports the preparation, handling, application, and maintenance of refractory materials used to protect furnace and other high-temperature equipment. The role contributes to the safe and effective maintenance of refractory linings and production equipment.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Support refractory preparation and application activities.
Assist in maintaining furnace and high-temperature equipment linings.
Support timely refractory maintenance activities.
Reduce operational risks associated with damaged refractory materials.
Maintain safe and clean working conditions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Refractory Preparation
Assist in preparing and handling ramming mass and refractory materials.
Prepare materials according to established instructions.
Ensure materials are stored appropriately.
Assist in transporting materials to required work areas.
Refractory Application & Maintenance
Assist with application and installation of refractory materials as directed.
Support repair and maintenance of refractory linings.
Assist in removal of damaged refractory materials.
Report signs of refractory deterioration to the supervisor.
Safety & Housekeeping
Follow safety procedures when handling refractory materials.
Wear appropriate PPE.
Maintain clean and organized work areas.
Follow procedures for dust and material handling.
Report hazards and unsafe conditions.
Qualification
Minimum KCSE qualification or equivalent.
Previous experience in refractory work, steel manufacturing, foundry, furnace operations, or construction is an added advantage.
Technical training in masonry, construction, mechanical, or related fields is an advantage.
Physically fit and able to perform manual duties.
