The Position


By virtue of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku Law (2002), the Rector is a Principal Officer of the Polytechnic and the Chief Academic and Executive Officer.
The Rector shall be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the institution and shall serve as the Chairman of the Academic Board, Congregation, and Convocation.


The Candidate
The ideal candidate must possess a sound educational background, high academic standing, and a proven track record of achievement in academia. Specifically, the candidate must:


Be a distinguished scholar not below the rank of Chief Lecturer in a Polytechnic or Senior Lecturer in a University at the
time of application, with expertise in at least one discipline/course offered by the Polytechnic;
Command the respect of national and international academic communities; Present a clear and feasible vision for the development of the Polytechnic.
Demonstrate the ability to attract external funding and generate internal revenue; Be in excellent physical and mental health
Possess strong academic and administrative leadership skills;
Demonstrate integrity, transparency, accountability, and resourcefulness;
Be a person of sound character with excellent interpersonal and leadership qualities.
The candidate must not be above sixty (60) years of age at the time of appointment.


Qualifications and Experience
Interested candidates must possess:


A Doctorate Degree in any discipline/ course/area of programmes offered by the Polytechnic;
At least fifteen (15) years of professional and administrative experience;
Cognate experience as a Chief Lecturer in a Polytechnic, Senior Lecturer in a University, or equivalent institution at the time of application;
Demonstrable capacity for academic and administrative leadership as well as the ability to effectively discharge the duties and responsibilities of the office of the Rector;
Evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals and presentations at conferences, seminars, and workshops; and Membership of relevant professional bodies.
Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to command the respect and loyalty of staff and students.


Terms and Conditions of Service


The Rector shall hold office for a single term of five (5) years on such terms and conditions as may be specified in the letter of appointment and in accordance with the Conditions of Service of the Polytechnic, as approved by the Governing Council and the Delta State Government.
