A relevant Doctorate in any of the specialization areas of the Faculty of Education
A minimum of five (5) years relevant experience, of which three (3) years' must be as a Senior Lecturer or above
The five (5) years mentioned above must include two (2) years' management experience related to the functions of an HOD (i.e academic and research management experience; financial and HR management in a department.
Research and supervision experience commensurate with the level of Senior Lecturer or above (which includes an outstanding record of research outputs: publications in peer-reviewed accredited journals; presentation of papers at professional conferences)
Post-graduate students supervised to completion, relevant to the Education field
Exposure in proposal writing and research funding applications
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
Overall leadership and responsibility for RTI in the Faculty
Compilation and implementation of the research strategy for the faculty in support of Dean's mandate
Co-ordination and facilitation of the allocation and appropriation of research funds within the faculty (URF and Confcom)
Oversight, in conjunction with department heads, of Adjunct -professors, research fellows and postdoctoral fellows
Oversight of the implementation of staff RTI-related capacity development
Maintenance of quality, retention of postgraduate students and increase in postgraduate intake
Creation of an enabling research infrastructure in the faculty
Postgraduate supervision
Measurement of and report on RTI progress to the Dean, Faculty Board, and Senate Research Committee
Active pursuit of external funding opportunities
Ensuring an enabling environment for research chairs and international partnerships
Oversight of the Honours programmes offered in the faculty
Represent the faculty in appropriate committees
Create an enabling research infrastructure in the faculty
