Purpose: To provide safe, professional and responsive nursing care to students and staff, and to support the school in maintaining a healthy, safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide first aid, respond to medical emergencies, and ensure students receive appropriate care or referral when necessary.
Conduct basic health assessments and screening, identify potential health concerns early, and recommend appropriate follow-up.
Educate students on hygiene, nutrition, healthy lifestyles, disease prevention, personal safety, and other relevant health topics.
Support students with chronic or ongoing health conditions such as asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, allergies, and other medical needs.
Provide basic emotional support, identify students who may need additional assistance, and facilitate appropriate referrals where necessary.
Work closely with teachers, school administration, support staff, parents or guardians, and other healthcare professionals to promote a safe and healthy school environment.
Maintain accurate health records, communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents or guardians, maintain confidentiality, and coordinate referrals when specialized medical attention is required.
Desired Qualifications, Experience & Specification
Diploma or Degree in Nursing (KRCHN, BScN or equivalent).
Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya and a valid practising licence.
At least 2 years of post-qualification nursing experience.
Valid First Aid / Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.
Valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
Previous experience working as a school nurse or in a school healthcare setting is an added advantage.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and the wider school community.
