Job Summary
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Finance team in Port Harcourt.
You will oversee general ledger maintenance, ensure statutory compliance, and lead a team of four direct reports in a fast-paced, high-volume retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting: Support the Head of Accounts in preparing monthly and annual financial statements and drive the GL closing process within 5 working days.
Inventory & Cost Control: Perform monthly Cost of Sales to Inventory reconciliations and investigate gross margin variances and stock losses.
Compliance & Audit: Ensure timely filing and payment of all tax obligations (VAT, WHT, PAYE, CIT) and manage the audit trail for regulatory reviews.
Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and review the work of accounting officers to ensure accuracy and procedural standardisation.
Process Improvement: Recommend system enhancements and process improvements to increase financial efficiency and control.
Requirements
A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
An ICA or ACCA qualification is mandatory.
Minimum of 7 years in accounting, with at least 3 years in a senior or supervisory capacity.
Proven experience in retail, supermarket, or FMCG environments handling high transaction volumes.
Deep knowledge of IFRS and Nigerian tax regulations.
Proficiency in QuickBooks (or similar ERP) and advanced Excel / analytical skills.
