Hatch is looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to join their Fire Safety Group in Johannesburg. The role of Senior Fire Safety Engineer seems to be quite dynamic, requiring close collaboration with project management, clients, engineers, and the global team. The emphasis on developing expertise and creating customized fire safety solutions suggests that this position would be both challenging and rewarding.


Responsibilities:


Conduct fire risk analysis, code compliance assessments, and conceptual fire safety designs in code consulting on projects with respect to the Building & Fire Codes and related SANS, NFPA, and FM Global standards.
Perform fire hazard assessment design calculations and ensure plans are compliant with relevant codes and standards.
Facilitate fire risk assessment sessions and perform fire risk assessments.
Develop performance-based strategies and/or code alternates utilizing fire engineering principles.
Contribute to or prepare technical reports in various phases of engineering.
Support site field visits to obtain information and data to support projects.
Participate in and contribute to design reviews.
Prepare, review, and issue material requisitions for different mechanical equipment (e.g., fire water pumps, foam systems, sprinklers, spray systems, firefighting equipment).
Prepare, review, and evaluate vendor technical bid evaluations and technical queries for different mechanical equipment (e.g., fire water pumps, foam systems, sprinklers, spray systems, firefighting equipment).
Provide services across several sectors including mining, power, nuclear, thermal, infrastructure, and oil and gas.
Perform hydraulic calculation reports.
Prepare piping and instrument diagrams (P&ID).
Perform fire and gas location layouts and philosophies.
Conduct consequence modeling and gas dispersion studies.

Qualifications:


A Bachelor/Master's degree in either Fire Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is required
A Master's degree in Mechanical is considered a strong asset
Professional registration with ECSA would be highly advantageous
Aptitude towards alternative compliance approaches, and thinking "outside the box"
Strong written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and relationship management skills
