Job Purpose
Hatch is looking to expand its service offering in the region (Africa, Europe, Middle East, and India) by extending its team of highly skilled geotechnical engineers. Hatch has already built a considerable global team in the Engineering Sciences Group and now seeks to expand that impact on the African continent in the Project Delivery Group within the Metals, Energy and Infrastructure sectors. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will engage with Clients, perform designs, mentor junior engineers and bid for new work with support from our local expert as well as specialists around the globe while supporting project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Technical:
Lead advanced geotechnical studies with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope
Perform conceptual and detailed geotechnical engineering design
Participate in scoping requirements for proposals
Assist with growing the local geotechnical discipline in the Africa, Europe, Middle East and India
Participate in and contribute to design reviews
Prepare and/or review project procedures, standard specifications and design criteria
Review and evaluate technical work prepared by engineers, designers and others
Develop factual and interpretive geotechnical reports
Ensure relevant technical experts are involved in the design process as required and facilitate the sharing of technical expertise both across projects and across Hatch offices globally.
Scope, manage and participate in field investigations for projects
Provide specialized geotechnical advice and analytical services
Prepare engineering calculations and technical specifications
Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports
Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates
Coordination & Client Engagement:
Undertake construction supervision and management dependent upon project demands
Support of site engineering teams to provide technical solutions and timely response to technical queries
Liaise with prospective clients to win work
Assist with growing the geotechnical team sustainably based on expanding workload
Work to ensure the implementation of safety in design and integrity principles in design documentation
Assist the Engineering Manager in meeting project scope, cost, and schedule requirements.
Quality & Safety:
Review and evaluate technical work prepared by engineers, designers, and technologists.
Ensure adherence to project procedures and standards.
Provide site support and timely response to technical queries during construction.
Work to ensure the implementation of safety in design and integrity principles in design documentation.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited university
Post-graduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering is considered essential
Registered as a Professional Engineer
10+ years' experience in relevant geotechnical field within the consulting industry
Experience with working on projects in a multi-disciplinary environment
Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards
Strong written skills to prepare reports, proposals and other project deliverables
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Good planning and organizational skills
Ability to function without supervision
Good safety awareness
