The Department of Political Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand is looking to appoint one (1) new member of academic staff at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer.
This is a permanent position at the rank of either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (1 position). The thematic specialization of this post is open to all areas of Political Studies. The Department is particularly keen to encourage applications from scholars who have knowledge of, and are prepared to teach in, Political Theory, Political Economy, and/or the Politics of Gender and Feminism.
Brief Description
Duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to be able to immediately integrate into the Departmental community and will need to teach large and diverse classes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, cooperating with colleagues in advancing the objectives of the Department, and contributing actively to the intellectual, communal and administrative life of the Department and University.
Requirements:
Candidates at both Lecturer and Senior Lecturer levels should possess a PhD. Candidates with experience with university teaching, supervision of post-graduate students, and an established publication record will have a strong advantage at both levels. Candidates with an established track record of academic administration, fundraising and additional supervision at MA and/or Ph.D. level will have an advantage at the Senior Lecturer level. Appointment at Senior Lecturer will take place according to the relevant institutional criteria established by the University for promotion to this level.
