What You'll Do


As Senior Manager, Healthy Heart Africa (HHA), you will play a pivotal role in implementing our Health Equity strategy and programmes aligned with our disease area priorities that bridge healthcare gaps for underserved patients, promote healthier behaviours, enable early disease detection and improve access to care. This role is critical in bringing to life how AstraZeneca is contributing to better, more equitable health outcomes for societies across the globe. This role requires a self-starter who is experienced in and energised by public private partnerships and implementing high-quality community healthcare programmes through hands-on delivery at country level. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in public health, government affairs, healthcare policy, and strategic programme management, with a passion for advancing health equity within the pharmaceutical industry.


Key Responsibilities
The Healthy Heart Africa (HHA) West Africa Lead will represent AstraZeneca and HHA in the region and be responsible for:


Leading the strategy and successful implementation of the HHA programme alongside the NGO partner(s) across West Africa to deliver against shared objectives
Working with all HHA stakeholders including policymakers, healthcare professionals and patient advocacy organisations to support capacity and capability building activities
Providing leadership through mentorship and coaching, guidance, and support to NGO partners on activities being delivered on the ground.


Leading the strategy and delivery of partnership with Governments and the NGO partner(s) in country:


Ensure HHA programme strategy is aligned with AstraZeneca's Global Health Equity strategy, country and programme needs to maximise effectiveness and impact.
Ensure NGO partners deliver Master Services Agreements and KPIs as per their Statement of Works
Conduct regular reviews with guidance and support on programme deliverables with NGO partners
Support partners towards effective and efficient programme delivery, all within required governance and compliance standards.


Working with HHA stakeholders to support capacity and capability building activities in/across country


Establish stakeholder relationships to ensure long term sustainability of the programme - NGO partners; Key External Experts; Medical Societies/Associations, Patient Advocacy Organisations
Support the HHA Director to establish and maintain ongoing relationships with Ministry of Health; NCD Units and County/Regional/District health officials.


Provide training, mentorship and coaching to NGO partners as required


Guidance and support to NGO partners as required and prioritised by the programme.


Provide leadership and assurance that programme activities are delivered in line with AstraZeneca governance and compliance requirements


Analysis and verification of programme data.
Regular updates to Policy, Advocacy and Health Equity (PAHE) team on programme developments/achievements.
Maintenance of administrative systems: T&E; data submission; partner governance; etc.


Governance and ensuring overall adherence to processes and regulation


Ensure compliance with AZ code of conduct, Corporate Governance, Audit requirement, guidelines, codes, policies and procedures
Provide medical input to the creation, development and agreement of promotional material and ensure all material is in line with internal SOPs


Support scientific programs to explore unmet medical needs in priority disease areas


Support the implementation of clinical research activities, selection of investigators and maintain relations with them, coordinated by the Therapy Area lead / Medical Manager, within the framework of clinical study plans (Investigator meetings, initiation visits and protocol training)
Responsible for promptly collecting and reporting any adverse events and product quality complaints received from any source. All such cases must be documented accurately and submitted to the designated department within one business day of becoming aware of the information, ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
Responsible for completing Adverse Event training during initial onboarding and then annually thereafter.

Essential Skills & Experience Required


Completed Degree in Science or related field
Proven experience in programme management, ideally within Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) with a focus on reducing health disparities, improving access to care, government engagement and/or health policies
Understanding of healthcare systems, how to drive healthcare policy change at country level and experience of successful partnership projects realised across diverse countries in Africa
Demonstrable experience in stakeholder management including government, policymakers, healthcare professionals and healthcare providers.
Passion for advancing health equity and a deep commitment to reducing healthcare disparities
Scientific knowledge, including ability to analyse data and use insights to inform decision-making and programme development.
Eagerness and ability to collaborate with and mobilise different people and organisations; develop strategic partnerships; work in a matrix organisation and ability to prioritise effectively
Excellent English written and verbal communications skills, ideally also French language proficiency
Self-starting, independent, entrepreneurial attitude with strong organisational and project management skills
Practical understanding of reporting and compliance requirements
Management of budgets and external NGO partners
