Purpose of the Role
The Senior Automotive Mechanic is responsible for leading and executing advanced maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of TTS trucks and plant equipment to ensure optimal performance, safety, and minimal downtime. The role provides technical leadership within the workshop and supports preventive maintenance planning across the fleet and recycling plant machinery.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle & Plant Equipment Maintenance
Carry out advanced diagnostics, repair, and servicing of company trucks, loaders, balers, conveyors, shredders, compactors, and other plant equipment.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance in line with manufacturer specifications and company schedules.
Identify recurring mechanical faults and recommend long-term solutions.
Ensure all vehicles and machines are roadworthy, safe, and compliant with regulatory standards.
Technical Leadership & Supervision
Provide hands-on technical guidance to junior mechanics and workshop support staff.
Assign tasks, monitor workmanship quality, and ensure jobs are completed within set timelines.
Support on-the-job training and skills development for the workshop team.
Workshop & Fleet Management Support
Maintain accurate maintenance records, job cards, and service histories for trucks and plant equipment.
Support spare parts identification, usage control, and proper tooling management.
Assist in planning maintenance schedules to reduce breakdowns and operational disruptions.
Safety, Compliance & Housekeeping
Ensure all mechanical works comply with TTS safety, health, and environmental standards.
Enforce proper use of PPE and safe workshop practices at all times.
Report incidents, near-misses, and equipment safety concerns promptly.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
Diploma or Certificate in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 - 7 years hands-on experience as an automotive mechanic, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
Strong experience working with heavy commercial trucks and plant/recycling equipment.
