Job Summary:
Our Client is seeking a Senior Production Geologist to join their team in Lagos, Nigeria. This role is within the upstream oil and gas sector, focusing on optimizing reservoir performance and production through geological expertise. The Senior Production Geologist will integrate geological and geophysical data to support field development plans, provide drilling support, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance recovery and field performance. Candidates will utilize advanced software tools and apply innovative problem-solving techniques to address geological challenges. Responsibilities:
Lead the design and execution of field development plans by integrating geological data to recommend optimal drilling locations and strategies that maximize production and reservoir performance.
Conduct comprehensive reservoir characterization studies using geological, well log, and seismic data to develop detailed geological models that enhance understanding of reservoir architecture and behavior.
Utilize advanced geological and geophysical software to integrate multi-source data, generating actionable insights for effective reservoir management.
Provide expert geological support during drilling operations, including well logging, wellbore monitoring, and onsite geological supervision to ensure safe and accurate well targeting.
Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams—including reservoir engineers, production engineers, and geophysicists—to develop and implement integrated solutions for reservoir optimization and production enhancement.
Prepare and present detailed geological reports, technical documentation, and performance summaries to senior management and key stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of findings and recommendations.
Identify and resolve geological challenges impacting production, such as reservoir compartmentalization and fluid migration, by delivering innovative and practical solutions.
Foster cross-departmental collaboration between subsurface teams and other units (e.g., Facilities, Well Engineering, Operations) to ensure seamless implementation of reservoir development and optimization initiatives.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to trainee geologists and subsurface teams, promoting knowledge sharing and professional development.
Oversee vendor relationships related to geological services, ensuring cost-effective contract management and alignment with project budgets and strategic objectives.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field
Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in production geology, including at least 6 years in a production geology role within a major producing indigenous or international oil and gas company
Proven expertise in developing static and sector reservoir models that drive operational results
Extensive experience across diverse reservoir environments such as conventional, unconventional, offshore, and mature fields
Demonstrated ability in reserve estimation and reservoir asset management to optimize economic returns
Strong knowledge of reservoir heterogeneity and compartmentalization and their impact on fluid flow and recovery efficiency
Hands-on experience supporting drilling operations with geological expertise, including well logging and wellbore monitoring
Proficiency in geological and geophysical software tools such as Petrel, Geoteric, Rockdoc, or equivalent platforms for data integration, modeling, and visualization
Comprehensive understanding of seismic acquisition and processing, rock physics, seismic inversion, and Amplitude Versus Offset (AVO) analysis
Excellent communication, reporting, and leadership skills with the ability to mentor junior geologists and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams
Preferred Qualifications:
Postgraduate degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline
Certification or documented training in relevant geological and reservoir management courses
Experience managing vendor relationships and geological service contracts to ensure cost-effective project delivery
Strong understanding of reservoir economics including cost-benefit analysis, net present value (NPV), and internal rate of return (IRR)
Demonstrated creativity and innovative problem-solving skills in addressing complex geological challenges
Proven ability to manage large datasets and utilize advanced data systems for reservoir characterization and production optimization
Self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset and high emotional intelligence to foster effective team dynamics
