Key Performance Areas


Perform high-quality foetal ultrasound scans, Carotid IMT, renal and echocardiography following clinical protocols.
Assess foetal development, anatomy, and detect abnormalities.
Ensure correct positioning of the patient for optimal imaging.
Explain procedures to patients and address concerns with empathy.
Maintain patient comfort and privacy throughout the scan.
Obtain informed consent before conducting ultrasound examinations.
Operate and adjust ultrasound machines to optimize image quality.
Perform routine maintenance and report equipment issues.
Stay updated on the latest ultrasound technology and techniques.
Capture and analyse high-quality images for research data collection and screening purposes.
Provide preliminary findings to the study leads and complete referrals were relevant.
Accurately document scan results on REDCAP.
Recruitment and identification of women in early pregnancy before 14 weeks gestation in partnership with local clinical services as appropriate approvals allow.
Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrate effective self-management.
Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained.
Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback.

Required minimum education and training
National Degree or Diploma in diagnostic ultrasound.


Required minimum work experience


Minimum 2 years
Professional body registration
HPCSA
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities
1-2 years of hands-on experience in obstetric and fetal imaging.
Experience in conducting 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester scans.
Experience in fetal biometry, anatomy surveys, doppler and anomaly detection
