What is the purpose of this job?
To oversee the daily operations of the store including stock management, point of sale processes, customer service, store standards and the effective management of a team to deliver operational requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide guidance, supervision and set an example for the team
Develop and guide team members in selling techniques, product knowledge, operational standards, customer service and visual merchandising standards
Ensure store is staffed according to agreed staffing schedules based on business requirements
Create a welcoming, inspirational, and personalised experience for all customers
Drive sales and turnover by motivating and inspiring the team members to achieve sales targets
Ensure visual merchandising standards create a beautiful store experience
Maintain a clean, neat, and tidy and fully replenished sales floor
Ensure stock levels, stock losses and shrinkage are effectively managed
Ensure all products are correctly priced with relevant Price stickers and /or signage
Ensure that stock take, and cycle count variance reports are checked, variances are investigated, and stock shortages or unbalanced stock information is escalated to the Area Manager
Ensure that point of sale and banking procedures are adhered to and raise any areas of concern with the Area Manager
Ensure all store standards and operations policies and procedures are adhered to
Effective execution of all operational activities within the store
Ensure all policies and procedures, including but not limited to Point of Sale, Cash Handling, Banking and Staff Uniform Policies, are adhered to, and signed by all staff
Ensure that point of sale and banking procedures are adhered to and raise any areas of concern with the Area Manager
Effectively manage stock, stock losses and shrinkage
Complete the Shrinkage Loss Checklist and ensure that there is an action plan to address any areas of concern.
Ensure that stock receiving and unpacking procedures are adhered to
Ensure Store Floor damages, Supplier defectives and Delivery damages are managed and processed correctly.
Reduce and manage stock damages by ensuring that all products are housed on the sales floor and in the stockroom according to required standards
Perform manual recons of all stock and include a visual check on stock during floor walks and stockroom checks
Utilise the Stock Variance Report to identify the high loss lines and ensure that these are recorded on the Stock Loss Action Plan.
Ensure accurate stock rotation and practice the FIFO principle at all times
Ensure that the correct stock take preparation is carried out prior to every stock take and participate in all stock takes
Ensure that cycle count reports are checked daily, investigate variances, and escalate stock shortages or unbalanced stock to the Area Manager
Analyse stock reports to identify over/under stock situations and Fast/slow selling products and take the required action to rectify the situation
Ensure that the Inter Store Transfer (IST) process is followed correctly, and all IST's have been processed by both the sending and receiving stores.
Ensure orders are placed timeously to avoid out of stock situations
Ensure that the store has adequate stock of top selling lines, with specific focus on the Top 100 item codes
Ensure up to date and accurate stock is displayed
Ensure that receiving processes are followed and any areas of concern such as stock overages, shortages, and damages are raised.
Inform team and customers of current promotions, discounts, and special offers.
Respond to all customer requests, comments and complaints and escalate when required
Ensure that a minimum of 1 to 2 makes overs are conducted every day and that customer and product details are recorded as per process
Ensure all promotions are effectively communicated to the team and that the required visuals are displayed in the stores as per Head Office instructions
Action all pricing, including Mark Up's and Mark Downs and promotions
Implement promotions 100% as per instructions received and signed off by management and ensure that all visuals to support the promotions, such as posters, shelf talkers, Perspex stands, A4 stand riser cards are effectively utilised
Provide the Area Manager with photos and videos of the store's windows, departments and the service counter, to confirm that the monthly promotions have been successfully implemented in accordance with instructions received
Focus on, support and manage marketing initiatives including but not limited to Sidewalk sales, Centre Court space, and Pop-Up Store
Ensure that the store visual merchandising standards and disciplines are consistently implemented and maintained to the required business standard to create a beautiful store experience
Complete Petty Cash Requests in full for all amounts over R 200, attach all supporting documentation and submit to the Area manager for authorisation.
Ensure Petty Cash usage is accurately captured on POS.
Order the required stationary, staff refreshments, cleaning materials and other consumables timeously from the warehouse in line with stock orders
Draft a staff schedule that provides optimum floor cover and visibility
Ensure staff planning is in place for peak trade cover, stock takes, training schedules and scheduled leave, e.g., annual leave and maternity leave
Monitor attendance registers and address any queries regarding completion of the document and availability
Ensure all new employees are effectively inducted and trained on all policies and procedures, the required induction documentation is signed by the employee and forwarded to HR for scanning and filing
Provide the required guidance for all new employees to register on Payspace, understand how to access required processes, e.g., leave applications, and documents, e.g., payslips and the required confidentiality for all personal information stored on IT systems
Ensure that all staff movements and or changes that impact on payroll and the maintenance of Payspace are effectively communicated to the Area Manager and or HR department
Conduct follow up sign off of employees who have attended training
Ensure that all staff are fully trained and knowledgeable on all products.
Ensure that the Second in Charge is familiar with and upskilled on the responsibilities of the Store Supervisor role in order that the correct level of support and adherence to operational standards can be maintained
Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures and notify the Area Manager and HR department of planned Department of Labour visits.
Raise any breach of procedure, breach of policy or any other concern with either the Store Supervisor, Area Manager, Risk and Compliance Manager or confidentially contact Whistle-blowers

REQUIREMENTS
Matric, grade 12 or equivalent certificate
A minimum of two years' experience supervising a small team in a retail store
Minimum of three years working experience in a retail or related environment is required
Experience working with beauty, fragrances, and skincare products is an advantage
Experience working with Point of Sale, and Microsoft Office (emails and Excel) is required
