The Business & Strategy Coordinator provides crucial support to the Company in driving strategic initiatives, risk management, compliance monitoring, and operational excellence across the organization.

This role integrates functions spanning strategic planning, ESG reporting, risk management, regulatory compliance (including NSE and ISO standards), and coordination of internal audit activities.

The job holder ensures that business operations align with strategic objectives, regulatory requirements, and best practices, contributing to sustainable growth and effective corporate governance.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy Implementation and Monitoring


Support departments in translating the corporate strategic plan into actionable departmental plans and monitor progress against objectives.
Track and evaluate performance on key strategic initiatives, KPIs, and deliverables across all business units.
Prepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual strategy performance reports for the COO, management, and the Board.
Provide analytical insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
Ensure all departmental activities remain aligned with corporate objectives and support continuous improvement initiatives.


ESG Reporting and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)


Prepare annual ESG disclosures in compliance with the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) ESG Reporting Manual and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards.
Gather, analyze, and consolidate ESG data from various departments for accurate reporting.
Monitor trends and regulatory developments in ESG and advise on necessary organizational adjustments.
Develop and implement a CSR strategy that aligns with the company's vision and sustainability goals.
Actively participate as a committee member (MANCO) of the Centum Foundation and coordinate CSR initiatives across the business.


Risk Management


Develop and maintain a comprehensive risk register capturing strategic, operational, financial, and compliance risks.
Monitor emerging risks and coordinate risk assessment processes across departments.
Analyze risk data and prepare periodic risk reports for management and the Board.
Recommend and support the implementation of risk mitigation measures in collaboration with departmental heads.
Promote a risk-aware culture across the organization through training and communication.


Compliance Monitoring


Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements from NSE, CMA, Ministry of Education, KNLS, and other statutory bodies relevant to the business.
Maintain and update the corporate compliance register, tracking regulatory obligations and deadlines.
Review, update, and help implement company policies and procedures to reflect changes in laws and regulations.
Monitor and report on compliance risks and propose mitigation strategies.
Ensure timely renewal and submission of licenses, permits, and statutory returns to relevant authorities.
Coordinate responses to NSE compliance requests and support regulatory reporting requirements.


ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS)


Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System across all departments.
Coordinate periodic reviews and updates of QMS documentation, including the Quality Manual, procedures, and records.
Plan and coordinate internal quality audits, ensuring non-conformities are tracked and corrective/preventive actions are implemented.
Maintain audit readiness for external certification and surveillance audits.
Compile quality reports and present insights to management during review meetings.


Internal Audit Coordination


Serve as the primary liaison between internal auditors and business units during audits and reviews.
Coordinate the provision of audit documentation, explanations, and responses from relevant departments.
Track progress on audit recommendations and follow up on the implementation of corrective actions.
Maintain audit schedules and ensure timely closure of audit issues.
Prepare status reports for the COO/Management on internal audit findings and resolutions.


Business Operations Support


Prepare and submit competitive bids and tenders to secure contracts with entities such as KICD, MoES (Uganda), NGOs, county governments, and corporate clients.
Support registration processes for new business entities or subsidiaries.
Provide operational and administrative support to regional teams in Uganda and Cameroon, ensuring alignment with corporate standards and compliance requirements.
Support adhoc projects and business initiatives as assigned by the Management/Supervisor.


Compliance Coordination


Serve as the primary liaison for ensuring the Company's compliance with the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) Act, applicable regulations, NSE Rules, and other relevant laws and regulatory requirements.
Monitor and ensure adherence to the Company's continuing listing obligations, including regulatory reporting, disclosures, governance, and other requirements applicable to a listed company.
Coordinate the timely preparation and submission of statutory, regulatory, compliance returns, notifications, and disclosures to the CMA, NSE, and other relevant authorities.
Monitor regulatory and legislative changes, assess their impact on the Company, and coordinate the implementation of necessary compliance actions and controls.
Conduct periodic compliance reviews, track identified gaps and corrective actions, and prepare compliance status reports for then Management highlighting key issues, risks, and recommendations.


Qualifications:


Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Strategic Management, Quality Management, Finance, Law or a related field.
Professional certification in Risk Management, Compliance, ESG, or Quality Management (e.g. ISO 9001:2015) is an added advantage.


Experience:


Minimum of Five (5) years of progressive experience in strategy implementation, compliance, risk management, ESG reporting, or related fields.


Skills


Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
Solid understanding of corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and ESG standards.
Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 QMS principles and audit processes.
Proficiency in preparing business and board-level reports.
Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
High proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
