Job Purpose

The primary purpose of the job holder is to design and maintain the networks and computer systems, support business users, install and configure computer systems, and diagnose and solve network technologies faults.

Key Responsibilities


Ensure full uptime (24/7) of the entire network of the Bank through best practices and appropriate collaboration with technical, business, and third-party organizations.
Install and configure software and hardware.
Manage, troubleshoot, and proactively update hardware and software assets to prevent downtime or zero-day exploits.
Quickly resolve system failures and troubleshoot issues and outages.
Upgrade systems with new releases and models.
Ensure uninterrupted internet connection and manage mail servers for sending and receiving emails, as well as file servers for saving and managing data.
Oversee system performance and report generation.
Secure system integrity from breaches or viruses and support risk mitigation planning, including backup plans, safeguards for data, user security policies, and identity management.
Develop and execute backup and recovery plans.
Maintain the asset inventory for the DC.
Manage network servers and technology tools.
Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements.
Participate in the design, setup, implementation, and testing of business continuity and disaster recovery installations within the bank.
Participate in onboarding and managing service level agreements with service providers or vendors.
Provide technical services and support for WAN and LAN connectivity, routers, firewalls, security, internal systems, cloud and network infrastructure.
Support Microsoft related technologies including Windows Server and SQL.
Support virtualization technologies including VMware and Microsoft.
Support remote access solutions.
Conduct remote monitoring and management of system alerts and notifications.
Perform network assessments and security audits.
Plan and implement network security, including building firewalls, configuring IPsec VPN, applying cryptography, and developing IT security policies, procedures, and standards within the bank.
Evaluate hardware, software, and peripheral equipment for LAN/WAN/MAN environments for procurement.
Anticipate communication and network problems and implement preventative measures.
Analyse, evaluate, and monitor network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.
Ensure security through access controls, backups, and firewalls.
Liaise with external suppliers and support agencies for ongoing support and maintenance of hardware and software.
Ensure timely invoice processing.
Monitor systems daily and respond immediately to security or usability concerns.
Administer Proofpoint, storage administration, and monitoring.
Monitor and report performance of replication services between DC and DR sites.
Maintain DR systems and manage the configuration and operation of DC and DR servers.
Support system upgrades and apply fixes or patches related to the infrastructure unit.
Assist in delivering system solutions and implementing projects to meet business, operational, and compliance objectives.
Follow up on audit findings, propose remediation, and ensure successful rectification or mitigation.
Ensure all policies and guidelines are implemented according to audit recommendations and requirements.
Ensure compliance with bank and regulatory requirements during implementation of related services.
Report any discrepancies immediately to the Head of IT Applications.
Prepare and ensure periodic Risk Control Self-Assessment for the unit.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required


University degree in Computer Science or an IT related field.


Certifications Required:


Advanced Diploma in Telecommunication/Electronics Engineering
Cisco Certified Network Professional.
CCNA minimum requirement or equivalent experience.


Experience and Skills


Minimum of 3 years' proven experience as a Network Administrator or similar role.
Knowledge of system security and data backup/recovery.
Experience with various operating systems and platforms.
Resourcefulness and strong problem-solving aptitude.
Excellent communication skills.
Knowledge of CIS standards is mandatory.
Fluency in spoken and written English.
Good integrity, positive attitude, helpfulness, high commitment, competence, and motivation.
Proven experience as a System Administrator or similar role.
Knowledge of intrusion detection systems and data backup/recovery.
Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms.
Strong writing skills with the ability to produce concise and organised reports.
Understanding of business concepts, tools, and processes required for sound decision-making.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong troubleshooting and change management skills.

Experience in network appliances such as Fortinet, Huawei, and Cisco.
In-depth knowledge and experience with Microsoft Windows Server, Unix/Linux, and AIX Operating Systems.
