We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer Specialist to join a leading banking institution based in Sandton on a 12-month hybrid contract. The successful candidate will provide advanced technical expertise and support across enterprise infrastructure and systems within a highly regulated financial services environment.
The role focuses on ensuring the stability, performance, availability, and security of mission-critical banking systems by managing the installation, configuration, optimisation, and maintenance of both internally developed and externally supplied hardware and systems software.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, configure, and maintain enterprise systems software and hardware in a banking environment
Perform advanced troubleshooting and resolution of complex infrastructure and system issues
Conduct system tuning, performance optimisation, and capacity management for high-availability environments
Manage patches, upgrades, and lifecycle maintenance of operating systems and related platforms
Ensure compliance with banking security, risk, and governance standards
Support integration across core banking systems, middleware, and enterprise applications
Monitor system performance and proactively identify risks to stability and availability
Collaborate with infrastructure, security, network, and application teams to deliver resilient solutions
Maintain accurate technical documentation, configurations, and operational procedures
Participate in standby/on-call rotations to support 24/7 banking operations where required
Minimum Experience:
5 - 8+ years' experience in Systems Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or similar technical roles
Proven experience supporting large-scale enterprise environments (preferably banking or financial services)
Hands-on experience with production systems, high availability environments, and mission-critical platforms
Experience working in ITIL-aligned operational environments (incident, problem, and change management)
Demonstrated experience in system upgrades, patching, and environment maintenance
Exposure to hybrid environments (on-premise and cloud integrations is advantageous)
Experience working in 24/7 operational or shift/on-call support environments

Any certification in cloud, infrastructure, or enterprise systems management
