We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Tax Semi Senior to join our Mombasa office. As a Tax Semi Senior, you will be responsible for delivering high quality tax services while applying advanced technical skills. You will work collaboratively within a team, carrying out tasks under the guidance and supervision of a Tax Senior or Tax Manager.
Responsibilities
Keeping abreast of changes in tax legislation, including developments in global and regional taxation, double tax agreements, transfer pricing, and related tax matters.
Assisting in providing tax opinions to clients on direct and indirect taxes, including income tax, VAT, customs, and excise.
Assisting in tax structuring engagements.
Preparing, reviewing, and filing tax computations and returns, ensuring client approval is obtained prior to filing and that filings are completed on a timely basis.
Preparing estimates of penalties and interest for late filing or payment and assisting with late return notifications to clients.
Preparing and reviewing installment and final tax payment notifications, advising clients accordingly, and ensuring timely remittance of payments processed through the firm.
Assisting in handling tax audits, investigations, objections, and appeals.
Assisting in VAT refund audits, tax due diligence, and tax health check engagements.
Assisting in following up with the revenue authority on client matters, including tax status, reconciliations, transfers of overpayments between years, refunds, waivers, and responses to tax demands.
Assisting with tax account, dividend tax account, and audit file reconciliations to ensure clients' tax records are accurate and up to date.
Assisting with changes to client details on the tax platform, including financial year-end changes.
Assisting in applications for Tax Identification Numbers and Tax Compliance/Clearance Certificates.
Attending to tax-related queries and correspondence from clients and the revenue authority as assigned.
Adhering to agreed timelines and promptly reporting any anticipated delays.
Supervising and guiding field teams to ensure work is carried out in accordance with agreed plans.
Training and developing junior staff within the department.
Assisting the Tax Manager in the development of tax publications, bulletins, and newsletters, as well as organizing client seminars.
Qualifications and experience
A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. CPA certification or ongoing progress toward it is preferred.
Certificate in Tax Administration is an added advantage
Candidates with 3 years of experience in tax preparation, tax consulting, or a related area are encouraged to apply.
Strong knowledge of Kenyan tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
Experience working in a multicultural environment.
