Role Purpose


The Junior Team Leader is responsible for supporting day-to-day operations at the Material Recovery Facility by supervising frontline staff, ensuring smooth workflow across sorting, baling, storage, and dispatch activities, and enforcing safety, quality, and productivity standards. The role focuses on operational execution, people supervision, and reporting to ensure targets are met efficiently and safely.


Key Responsibilities.


Operational Oversight
Coordinate daily MRF activities including waste reception, sorting, baling, storage, and dispatch.
Monitor daily output against set targets for throughput, quality, and safety.
Identify operational bottlenecks and escalate improvement opportunities to the supervisor.
Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Team Leadership & Performance
Supervise sorting staff and operators during assigned shifts.
Allocate duties, manage attendance, and ensure discipline on the shop floor.
Support onboarding and on-the-job training of new staff.
Motivate teams to meet productivity and quality targets.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards.
Ensure correct use of PPE and maintain good housekeeping practices.
Report incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions promptly.
Promote a strong safety-first culture within the team.
Equipment & Maintenance Support
Ensure correct and safe use of plant equipment.
Report equipment faults and coordinate with maintenance teams for timely repairs.
Support preventive maintenance activities by ensuring equipment availability and care.
Inventory & Dispatch Support
Monitor material flow from incoming waste to sorted outputs.
Assist in tracking inventory levels and preparing materials for dispatch.
Ensure proper documentation and handover during dispatch activities.
Reporting
Prepare and submit daily and weekly operational reports.
Record production data, downtime, safety incidents, and staff attendance.
Share operational insights with the Supervisor/Manager for performance improvement.
Stakeholder Coordination
Work closely with logistics, maintenance, and security teams to ensure smooth operations.
Support audits, inspections, and client or management visits when required.


Qualifications & Experience


Diploma or Certificate in Operations, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Business, or a related field.
At least 1 - 3 years' experience in a production, plant, logistics, or waste management environment.
Previous supervisory or acting team leader experience is an added advantage.
