Job Description
The Technical Drawing Teacher will be responsible for introducing students to the fundamentals of engineering graphics, spatial visualization, and architectural drafting.
The ideal candidate will bridge manual drafting board techniques with modern Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, equipping students with essential geometric problem-solving skills and preparing them thoroughly for internal assessments and external examinations (such as WAEC, NECO, or Cambridge IGCSE).
Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver structured lessons in plane and solid geometry, orthographic projections, isometric drawing, sectional views, and basic architectural detailing.
Practical Instruction: Guide students through the precise use of manual drafting instruments (T-squares, set squares, compasses) and introduce them to digital design software.
Exam Preparation: Prepare senior students intensively for both the theoretical and practical drawing components of terminal regional or international examinations.
Studio Management: Maintain an orderly and well-equipped drafting studio or graphics laboratory. Ensure drawing boards, instruments, and workstation equipment are properly maintained and accounted for.
Assessment & Grading: Evaluate students' drawing sheets and digital projects promptly and precisely, checking for accuracy, line quality, dimensioning, and neatness.
Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and weekly lesson plans, participating actively in science/technical department meetings.
Education & Experience Requirements
Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Education (B.Ed.) in Technical/Vocational Education, or a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) / Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) / BSc in Architecture plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).
Professional Certification: Registration with a relevant national teaching council or regulatory body (such as TRCN) is highly preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 2 - 3 years of classroom and studio teaching experience at the secondary school level, with a documented history of strong student performance in external technical drawing examinations.
Key Skills:
Technical Drawing Expertise: Advanced mastery of geometric constructions, descriptive geometry, and drafting conventions (BS 8888 or equivalent international standards).
CAD Proficiency: Hands-on competence with industry-standard design software (such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar architectural/engineering tools).
Spatial Visualization: Exceptional ability to conceptualize three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawings and explain these spatial relationships clearly to students.
Precision & Attention to Detail: A keen eye for dimensional accuracy, lettering, scale representation, and immaculate drawing layout.
Patience & Guidance: Ability to guide students patiently through complex, multi-step geometric constructions and troubleshooting design errors.
Other Requirements:
Strong digital literacy, including the ability to manage computer workstations or graphics labs and navigate school management portals.
High level of professional ethics, integrity, and dedication to fostering analytical, engineering-minded thinking in students.
Willingness to collaborate with the Science and Technical department heads, workshop assistants, parents, and school administration.
Remuneration & Benefits
Salary: N150,000 / month. Competitive monthly gross salary, commensurate with qualifications, experience, and institutional scale.
Benefits: Access to contributory pension schemes, comprehensive health insurance coverage, and opportunities for continuous professional development (CPD).
