Role Purpose:
Reporting to the Shift Miller the Technical Machine Operator will be responsible for attending to all milling machinery located on the roller floor and ensure proper adjustment of the feed as well as maintaining GMP
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Production Plan Execution
Attend daily Production Planning Meeting through DAB
Ensure proper execution of all production plans
Ensure proper product and additive reconciliation ahead of posting by the Miller
Ensure timely reservation of all consumables required in the mill
Implement Food Safety objectives
Enhance customer experience through production of conforming products
Maintain GMPs above 90%
Ensure compliance to legal/regulatory requirements
Implement Quality Plan and other food safety programs
Grain Cleaning Process
Ensure operational excellence by Maintaining equipment efficiencies
Ensure optimal water addition for the wheat grain
Ensure adequate lying time for wheat
Maintain hourly transfer target for wheat at 14MT/hr and Maize 8.5MT/hr
Ensure optimal separation of screenings
Ensure proper handling and mixing of screenings into byproduct
Optimize Grain Conversion
Maintain set extraction rates and other milling efficiencies
Adopt and implement the wheat grist
Participate in investigating process losses and take prompt corrective actions
Adhere to Product Specifications
Pest Management
Adopt the best industrial practice by maintaining proper hygiene levels
Ensure proper Sanitation of equipment through the deep cleaning process
Conduct equipment and process inspection for traces of infestation
Ensure AM and PM support in regard to equipment maintenance
Maintenance Programs
Adopt the best industrial practice by maintaining proper working integrity of the milling equipment
Conduct routine equipment inspection
Participate in the Autonomous Maintenance through trainings, tagging and elimination of abnormalities
Conduct Condition Based Maintenance activities and report any machine faults
Ensure support for Planned Maintenance; Roll change, sifter maintenance, servicing drives…
Participate in the troubleshooting process and correct any abnormalities. Use available manuals for interpretation of errors
Continual Improvement Initiatives
Improve operational efficiencies through PaTaMu
Identify process challenges & use PDCA to address bottlenecks
Participate in the training program to enhance competences
Participate in the planned performance reviews with the Shift Miller
Support activities around Unga's culture code - FIRST.
Participate in organizing site events and other initiatives
Participate in the planned workplace safety trainings
Ensure adherence and compliance to safety requirements
Communication & Accountability
Improve on process accountability through F2F discussions
Ensure effective communication
Participate in conflict resolution. Escalate chronic issues that require urgent attention
Process documentation and Reporting
Document and maintain all process records
Participate in generating Production Report, Mill backup report, records for additive, magnet cleaning records, sifter maintenance records…
Participate in the daily reconciliation of additives
Participate in the stocktake process and take corrective actions against variances
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Food Science and Technology
Minimum two (2) years of work experience in a manufacturing industry
Experience in Machine Operations and Maintenance
Experience in grain processing
Basic understanding of autonomous maintenance
Basic/Good trouble shooting skills
Computer proficiency in MS Office
