We're looking for a Technical Manager to lead the research, planning, coordination, and execution of new product development, product quality improvements, cost-saving initiatives, and technical support from concept brief to product launch. The role will be based at Pretoria West and will report into the Technical Executive.
Purpose of the role is to direct and influence product innovation, quality, and efficiency by:
Driving new product development from concept to launch.
Leading product quality improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
Providing technical expertise and support across processes and teams.
Ensuring compliance with food safety, legislation, and industry standards.
Minimum Requirements
A degree or diploma in Food Technology or Food Science or BTech.
Minimum 7 years' experience in a Food-related FMCG environment with preferably 5 years in a R&D or similar managerial role.
Valid Code EB driver's licence.
Strong knowledge of R&D principles, food safety and quality management, Production and process management and National Food legislation - GMP, HACCP, CPA, R146 compliance requirements.
Required to travel (60%) and occasionally work overtime.
Required to work in between the factories and the office.
Participation in required taste sessions.

Duties & Responsibilities
Strategy into Action: Provide insights on market trends, competitor activity, and operational processes to support sustainable growth.
New Product Development: Scope product briefs, direct technical development, and remove obstacles to progress.
Product Quality & Cost Saving: Identify opportunities for improvement and lead initiatives that simplify processes and reduce costs.
Team Leadership: Mentor and develop technical staff, drive performance appraisals, and champion training.
Customer Engagement: Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, addressing technical and quality needs.
Operations Support: Simplify production processes, optimise plant efficiencies, and ensure effective raw material utilisation.
Compliance Management: Ensure adherence to GMP, HACCP, CPA, R146, and SANS standards, driving corrective action where needed.

External: Suppliers, Service Providers, and Consumer/Customer.
