Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly competent Technical Superintendent to oversee vessel operations, maintenance, safety, regulatory compliance and overall operational performance.
The successful candidate will provide effective shore-based support to vessels, work closely with Masters, Chief Engineers and other shipboard personnel, and ensure that vessels operate safely, efficiently and in compliance with applicable company, flag-state, class and international maritime requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the safe, efficient and effective operation of assigned vessels.
Provide shore-based technical and operational support to Masters and vessel crews.
Monitor vessel maintenance, equipment condition and overall vessel performance.
Ensure vessels comply with Company policies, the Safety Management System (SMS), ISM Code, flag-state, class and applicable maritime regulations.
Monitor and support vessel certification and statutory compliance requirements.
Coordinate vessel maintenance, repairs, dry-docking, surveys and other technical activities.
Monitor vessel safety, environmental protection and operational standards.
Review vessel reports, maintenance records, safety reports and other technical documentation and ensure timely follow-up.
Work closely with Masters and shipboard teams to identify operational risks and implement appropriate corrective actions.
Support effective crew planning, training and development in line with Company and regulatory requirements.
Maintain effective communication with vessel personnel, shore management, clients, charterers and other relevant stakeholders.
Monitor operational efficiency and ensure vessels are adequately prepared for voyages and assigned operations.
Support incident, accident and near-miss reporting and follow-up where required.
Ensure effective implementation of risk assessment and emergency management procedures.
Participate in vessel inspections, audits, surveys and management reviews as required.
Build and maintain positive relationships with clients and other stakeholders.
Perform other related duties as assigned by Management.
Requirements
Master's Certificate of Competency in line with the minimum safe manning requirements of the vessel.
10 - 15 years of sea-going experience, with at least 8 years in a management role within a marine/shipping company.
Demonstrated extensive experience in vessel and shipping operations.
NIMASA registration.
Valid GMDSS certification.
Valid seafarer medical fitness certificate.
Relevant STCW certifications, including Advanced Fire Fighting, Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (PSCRB), Personal Survival Techniques and Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities.
First Aid/Medical First Aid certification.
Security Awareness/Designated Security Duties training.
Bridge Resource Management certification.
Strong knowledge of marine vessel operations and facilities.
Excellent knowledge of flag-state and classification requirements.
Good knowledge of Marine Safety Management Systems and the ISM Code.
Experience with vessel maintenance and dry-docking.
DP certification will be an advantage, depending on vessel requirements.
