Job Summary
We are seeking an efficient and detail-oriented Theater Technician to join our surgical operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing operating rooms, ensuring the sterility and availability of surgical instruments, and providing technical support to surgeons and nursing staff before, during, and after surgical procedures.
Key Job Functions & Responsibilities
OR Preparation: Clean, sterilize, and set up the operating theater with necessary surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile drapes prior to surgery.
Intraoperative Assistance: Pass sterile instruments and supplies to surgeons during operations; anticipate the needs of the surgical team to ensure smooth workflows.
Equipment Management: Operate and maintain specialized theatre equipment (e.g., autoclaves, laparoscopic towers, electrocautery machines, and suction units) and report any malfunctions.
Patient Handling: Assist clinical staff with safely transferring, positioning, and draping patients on the operating table, ensuring comfort and proper anatomical alignment.
Post-Operative Strike: Clear the operating room post-surgery, safely dispose of biohazardous waste and sharps, and transport used instruments to the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) for decontamination.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Sterile Technique Mastery: Strict understanding of aseptic techniques, infection control protocols, and sterilization standards (CSSD guidelines).
Surgical Instrument Knowledge: Familiarity with a wide range of general and specialized surgical tools, implants, and equipment.
Physical Stamina & Agility: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy instrument trays, and safely position patients.
Under-Pressure Problem Solving: Ability to remain calm, alert, and responsive to rapid changes or emergencies during live surgical procedures.
Team Collaboration: Strong communication skills to work seamlessly alongside surgeons, anesthesiologists, and theater nurses.
Requirement:
A Diploma or Certificate in Operating Theatre Technology (OTT) or equivalent, and registration with the relevant local health professions regulatory board.
