A Trainee Accountant is an entry-level role assisting senior staff with daily bookkeeping, financial reporting, and reconciliations while studying for a professional certification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or AAT). Key responsibilities include processing journal entries, conducting bank reconciliations, assisting with VAT returns, and supporting month-end closing procedures.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Bookkeeping & Transactions: Inputting daily invoices, expenses, and cash book transactions into accounting software (e.g., Xero, Sage, QuickBooks).
Reconciliations: Reconciling bank statements with internal records and managing aged debtors/creditors.
Month-End Support: Assisting with management accounts, VAT returns, and preparing journal adjustments.
Audit Preparation: Assisting with year-end audit preparations, including file maintenance and documenting transactions.
Compliance: Ensuring compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
Administrative Tasks: Handling filing, maintaining the fixed asset register, and responding to client queries
Required Skills and Qualifications
Education: A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Certification Pursuit: Actively studying for or committed to studying for a professional accountancy qualification (AAT, ACA, ACCA).
Software Proficiency: Experience with Microsoft Excel and basic knowledge of accounting software.
Technical Skills: Strong numeracy, attention to detail, and analytical skills.
