Job Objective/ Purpose:
Provide professional and compassionate nursing services and high quality care to patients, by ensuring their review and treatment as per the Hospital protocols, and nursing standards and practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond promptly to emergency alerts, hospital codes, and mass casualty incidents and work with the Clinical team to guide patients through the emergency treatment journey, supporting timely diagnosis and management of the presenting condition, and deliver treatment as per the care plan.
Assist with and manage complex bedside procedures such as intubation, central line insertion, chest tube insertion and peritoneal dialysis, within scope of practices, ensuring aseptic technique and safe patient handling.
Continuously monitor and interpret vital signs via advanced systems (cardiac, ventilator, ICP, etc.), titrating IV infusions (e.g., inotropes, vasopressors, insulin, sedatives) within prescribed parameters and responding promptly to changes in condition.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date emergency department documentation, including triage notes, treatment charts, and observation flow sheets, and ensure all nursing protocols have been administered as per the set-out policies and guidelines, including recording and reporting all sentinel incidents/events within 4 hours using the provided tools.
Ensure proper and effective drug administration and management, including preparation and dispensing medication and allied consumables according to prescribed dosages and safety protocols (Five rights of Dispensing).
Actively participate in patient admission, ward rounds, receive handover reports from the outgoing nurse on shift, while ensuring all the relevant consultants have explained procedures and have obtained consent.
Manage end-of-life care with empathy and professionalism, including withdrawal of care, comfort measures, and supporting family through difficult decisions.
Maintain and enforce infection control standards per policy, and observe the infection control bundles (SSI, VAP, CAUTI and CLABSI) where applicable.
Ensure that Avenue Healthcare corporate governance policies are adhered to, including preventing, detecting, and reporting any fraud or criminal activities, and Implementing audit recommendations.
Ensure adequate knowledge of and compliance to all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures, and systems, especially policies pertaining to the provision of medical services i.e. Admission & discharge, nurses' reports, equipment and supplies, etc.
Adhere to Government and respective professional standards of care and treatment of patients as guided by the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Person Specification
Higher Diploma in Accident & Emergency Nursing (KRAEN) or Critical Care Nursing (KRCCN)
A valid Nursing License from NCK
Current BLS and ACLS certification; training in ETAT+/ATLS/PALS is an added advantage.
2+ years' experience in an Accident & Emergency or Critical Care setting
