Job Purpose
This position is responsible for offering technical support to teaching departments and guiding students in their technical work — including conducting practical classes, setting up experiments, and administering practical examinations.
Key Responsibilities
Perform laboratory budgeting and stock-taking for requisition of materials.
Participate in departmental committees and internal laboratory/workshop audits.
Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of laboratory waste after practical sessions.
Obtain and set up equipment and materials for practicals and demonstrations.
Collect and prepare teaching and research materials for departmental use.
Carry out laboratory waste segregation and management in compliance with safety standards.
Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory and workshop equipment.
Coordinate, invigilate, and mark practical examinations.
Compile and facilitate the acquisition of laboratory and workshop supplies to ensure timely availability.
Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students during practical sessions and workshop practice.
Assist in the organization and participation in academic shows, exhibitions, and outreach programs.
Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time.
Job Specification / Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in the relevant area of specialization; OR
Higher National Diploma in the relevant field with three (3) years working experience; OR
Diploma in the relevant field with nine (9) years working experience, three (3) of which must be at Technician Grade 7 or its equivalent.
Membership in a recognized professional body and in good standing.
Proficiency in relevant computer applications.
