Key Purpose


The Warehouse Specialist is responsible for designing, optimizing, and maintaining high-performance warehouse layouts across all depots to ensure efficient storage, smooth product flow, and world-class operational execution. This role drives space optimization, throughput improvement, and cost-effective warehouse performance by combining engineering principles, data analytics, and continuous improvement methodologies. Through detailed layout planning, time-and-motion studies, and collaboration with cross-functional teams, the specialist ensures that warehouse environments support business demand, product changes, inventory requirements, and safety standards. Ultimately, this role enables CCBSA to maximize productivity, reduce handling costs, and deliver seamless logistics performance.


Key Duties & Responsibilities
Key Outcome

Warehouse Layout Optimisation


Design and maintain optimised warehouse layouts for all depots in South Africa.
Update layouts to accommodate new products and packaging changes
Identify and implement improvements in layout design, resourcing, and space utilisation
Plan and execute layout changes, considering factors like product type, storage requirements, and traffic flow.
Ensure the layout complies with safety regulations and standards.
optimise space by considering cube storage solutions, multi-tiered systems, and compact storage units.
Ensure layouts support target throughput levels across different depots
Determine optimal min-max stock levels per depot and align space requirements accordingly.
Adjust designs based on changes in demand or supply and changes in product offering for all sites to ensure warehouse space is optimally allocated.


Process Optimisation


Conduct detailed studies to assess labor and equipment needs for various layouts
Examines the Logistics workflow and identifies ways to streamline warehouse activities and resources with supply and demand business requirements. This is done to determine:
Additional resources required for peak periods
Additional warehouse space requirements for manufacturing downtime and stock builds
Analysis of operational and stock data for gaps and inefficiencies to improve inventory management, stock control and availability to reduce distribution and handling costs.


Data Analysis and Reporting


Collect warehouse performance data to gather information on key metrics like picking rates, put-away times, and space utilisation.
Analyse inventory movement to understand product flow, identify trends, and predict future needs.
Track Key Performance Indicators to monitor metrics such as order fulfilment rates, inventory accuracy, and shipping efficiency.
Apply cost-based analysis to warehouse activities to ensure that recommendations and decisions are financially sound and supported.


Skills, Experience & Education
Education


Degree in Industrial Engineering


Experience


5-7 years of experience in warehouse operations, stock management, or distribution.
FMCG warehousing experience
Experience in conducting time and motion studies


Skills


Proven experience designing warehouse layouts
AutoCAD proficiency
Demonstrated process improvement mindset with a focus on efficiency and effectiveness.
Strong data analysis capability, including the ability to collect, interpret, and draw meaningful insights from data.
Proven ability to translate data findings into practical layout adjustments and operational improvements.
Familiarity and exposure to New Product Development (NPD) processes.
Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across different teams.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly convey information to diverse audiences.
Ability to align and manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Exposure to and understanding of lean or Kaizen practices and principles.
Proactive problem-solving mindset, with the ability to identify and resolve issues before they escalate.
Strong analytical and planning skills, with the ability to think strategically and develop effective plans.
