Purpose of the Role
The Welder is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal structures, components, and equipment to support maintenance and operational efficiency. The role ensures high-quality welding work, adherence to safety standards, and reliability of machinery and structural components across the facility.
Key Responsibilities.
Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding for fabrication, assembly, and repair of metal structures and components.
Fabricate metal parts and structures based on technical specifications and operational requirements.
Interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings to determine appropriate welding methods and requirements.
Carry out maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment within the facility (including MRF and other operational areas).
Execute conveyor belt vulcanising and mechanical splicing, ensuring strong, durable joints and continuous operation with minimal failure.
Conduct inspections of welded surfaces and structures to ensure quality, strength, and compliance with specifications.
Identify defects, faults, or weaknesses in welded structures and perform necessary repairs.
Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and structural issues affecting equipment performance.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and report areas requiring further repair or replacement.
Maintain welding tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition at all times.
Ensure all welding work complies with safety and quality standards and company procedures.
Adhere strictly to safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and safe handling of equipment and materials.
Identify and report safety hazards, incidents, or risks to the supervisor promptly.
Maintain accurate records of welding work, repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
Support continuous improvement by recommending solutions to enhance system performance, durability, and reliability.
Collaborate with other departments and external contractors when required to support maintenance operations.
Requirements
Education
Diploma, KCSE, Training Certficate.
Technical certificate or diploma in Welding is preferred
Relevant Experience
Proven experience as a welder
Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and stick welding
Experience in equipment repair and maintenance is an added advantage
Business Understanding
Metal works and fabrication processes

Basic understanding of maintenance operations and equipment functionality
Knowledge & Skills
