Bilnor Staffing Solutions' client in heavy equipment sector is seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to oversee workshop operations in Honeydew, Johannesburg GT.
South African Citizens and those living in the area will be preferred


Minimum Requirements:


Trade qualification preferred (Millwright / Electrical); candidates without a formal trade qualification must be willing to complete an ARPL process toward one of these trades.

Workshop Management qualification or related management certification.
Minimum of 8 - 10 years' experience in workshop operations, with at least 3 years as a Foreman or in Senior Management.


Personnel Management:


Provide senior leadership and strategic direction to all workshop personnel, foremen, and supervisors to ensure operational excellence.
Oversee workforce planning, recruitment input, succession planning, and organizational development.
Approve and review quarterly performance evaluations conducted by foremen, ensuring fairness and alignment with company KPIs.
Establish productivity benchmarks and performance targets across departments.
Drive leadership development initiatives to strengthen supervisory and technical management capacity.
Oversee disciplinary processes together with HR and ensure consistent enforcement of company policies and code of conduct.
Approve staffing schedules and resource allocations to ensure optimal workforce utilization.
Promote employee engagement initiatives aimed at improving morale.
Ensure management accountability structures are maintained across all workshop divisions.
Oversee compliance with housekeeping, operational discipline, and professional conduct standards.
Align workforce capacity planning with operational demands and project forecasts.
Drive operational efficiency initiatives, targeting improvement in productivity.


Safety Compliance:


Assume overall accountability for workshop health, safety, and environmental compliance.
Oversee implementation of OHS policies and procedures to achieve zero reportable incidents.
Ensure legal compliance with OHSA, NEMA, Waste Act, Air Quality Act, and all applicable safety legislation.
Review safety audit findings and enforce corrective action plans within defined timelines.
Ensure risk assessments are conducted and updated regularly across all operational areas.
Oversee safety training programs to maintain full staff compliance with PPE and safe work practices.
Serve as Section 16.2 responsible person, ensuring 100% OHSA compliance within the workshop.


Quality Control and Continuous Improvement:


Develop and implement workshop quality management systems aligned with OEM and ISO standards.
Monitor and improve Fix Right First Time (FRFT) performance by at least 20% over two years.
Establish continuous improvement frameworks to enhance productivity, reduce rework, and minimize operational waste.
Oversee implementation of standardized operating procedures across all workshop functions.
Ensure audit readiness and maintain full compliance with internal and external quality audits.
Review performance metrics and implement corrective strategies to improve service delivery standards.
Oversee customer service quality frameworks to maintain satisfaction ratings.
Drive innovation initiatives to modernize workshop systems, tools, and operational technologies.


Customer Relations:


Oversee all customer service operations and ensure professional handling of escalated client matters.
Develop customer retention strategies to strengthen long-term business relationships.
Monitor service delivery standards and ensure consistent achievement of contractual obligations.
Support business development initiatives through technical input and service capability planning.


Budget Management and Administrative Oversight:


Develop and manage annual workshop budgets, ensuring expenditure remains within approved limits.
Monitor financial performance and implement corrective measures to achieve profitability targets.
Oversee cost control programs targeting annual operational savings of at least 10%.
Authorize capital expenditure for tools, equipment, and infrastructure improvements.
Ensure effective inventory and asset management systems are maintained.
Oversee warranty and service claim processes to ensure efficiency and cost recovery.
Review and approve monthly operational and financial performance reports.
Drive revenue growth strategies within service and parts divisions to improve profitability.
Ensure compliance with all financial controls, procurement policies, and reporting standards.


Training and Development:


Develop annual training strategies aligned with operational and technological requirements.
Approve technical certification programs and leadership development initiatives.
Oversee succession planning frameworks for key technical and supervisory roles.
Promote continuous professional development and compliance training across all departments.


Operational Oversight:


Oversee workshop production planning to ensure maximum operational efficiency.
Monitor service schedules and resource coordination to minimize downtime and delays.
Ensure preventative maintenance strategies are implemented to extend equipment lifecycle.
Oversee field service operations to ensure responsiveness and service reliability.
Establish operational risk mitigation strategies to protect business continuity.


Standby


Oversee standby structures to ensure adequate staffing and service continuity.
Ensure escalation protocols are followed for after-hours technical emergencies.


Equipment Maintenance and Safety:


Oversee equipment lifecycle management strategies to ensure long-term reliability and safety compliance.
Approve maintenance schedules and asset replacement planning.
Ensure asset registers and compliance certifications are maintained accurately.
Oversee statutory inspections for lifting equipment, vehicles, and specialized machinery.


Workflow Coordination:


Oversee workflow systems to ensure optimal task sequencing and resource deployment.
Monitor workshop management systems to ensure accurate job tracking and reporting.
Identify workflow inefficiencies and implement corrective optimization measures.


Inventory and Resource Management:


Oversee inventory control systems to maintain optimal stock levels and prevent operational delays.
Approve procurement plans and supplier performance evaluations.
Ensure effective materials planning aligned with operational forecasts.


External Coordination and Vendor Management


Develop and maintain strategic supplier partnerships.
Negotiate service level agreements and monitor vendor performance metrics.
Ensure contractor compliance with safety and operational standards.


Coordinating Resources:


Oversee allocation of technical resources across workshop and field operations.
Approve resource deployment plans for major repairs, projects, and commissioning activities.
