Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Agronomist to support crop production on its 150-hectare farm.
The Agronomist will provide technical agronomic guidance to improve soil health, crop yield, and overall farm productivity.
The role focuses on implementing best practices, monitoring crop performance, and supporting the Farm Manager with data-driven recommendations to reverse previous low yield
Key Responsibilities
Improve crop yield performance by contributing to a minimum 20 - 30% yield increase within two farming seasons for rice, maize, and soybeans.
Conduct soil analysis and fertility assessments at least twice per season, with documented recommendations implemented at 90% compliance rate.
Develop and monitor crop nutrition programs, ensuring fertilizer application accuracy of 95% against recommended rates.
Support pest, disease, and weed management programs, maintaining crop loss levels below 5% per season.
Monitor crop growth stages and field conditions, submitting weekly agronomic reports with actionable recommendations to the Farm Manager.
Ensure correct seed selection and planting practices, achieving uniform crop establishment on at least 90% of planted area.
Optimize input efficiency, contributing to a minimum 15% reduction in input wastage (seed, fertilizer, chemicals) per season.
Assist in yield estimation and post-harvest analysis, delivering accurate yield variance reports within ±5% of actual harvest results.
Train and guide field staff on agronomic best practices, achieving 90% adherence to recommended field protocols.
Support the establishment of demo plots across Matrix sales regional hubs to create visibility for our fertilizer and other agricultural inputs.
Support compliance with environmental and safety standards, with zero major agronomic-related non-compliance incidents annually.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years' hands-on experience in crop production, preferably on medium to large-scale farms.
Practical knowledge of rice, maize, and soybean agronomy.
Experience in soil fertility management, crop nutrition, and pest/disease control.
Strong data collection, analysis, and reporting skills.
Ability to work effectively under the direction of a Farm Manager.
Good communication, observation, and problem-solving skills.
Willingness to work in field-based conditions.
Strong knowledge of soil fertility management, fertilizers, and crop nutrition.
Experience working with mechanized farming systems is an added advantage.
