Job Summary

Responsible for the support of a multi-vendor stack of Infrastructure platforms.

Roles & Responsibilities

Operational

Maintain computing systems, including servers, storage, network, virtualisation, and cloud infrastructure.

Maintain and secure virtualisation platforms such as VMware, KVM, OpenShift and Kubernetes.

Set up, manage, troubleshoot and resolve BareMetal, VMs and container workloads.

Install, configure, monitor, troubleshoot, resolve and secure Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

Monitor, troubleshoot, resolve and secure storage infrastructure, including SAN, NAS, DAS, and SDS, as well as FC & Ethernet storage switches.

Implement backup, disaster recovery and business continuity using Commvault.

Maintain high availability, scalability, monitoring and security of installed computer and storage Infrastructure.

Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless integration of the infrastructure with business applications.

Carry out maintenance, patches, upgrades and security assessments to ensure optimal system performance.

Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies.

Be available to provide out-of-hours support.

Continuously evaluates designs, functionalities, performance and security of supported business applications and make thoughtful, significant recommendations for Infrastructure improvements/retirements.

Ensure transition and support documentations are for purpose, to a high standard and kept current.

Carry out other activities as instructed by the Manager, Unified Infrastructure.

Education & Experience


First degree or equivalent in Computer Science/IT, Engineering or a related or relevant discipline
Two (2) + years of combined Telecom/IT/applications management experience in high-impact role(s) with a clear progression in levels of responsibilities
Experience managing a complex stack of multi-vendor Infrastructure platforms at the desired scale, preferably in a Telco or Tier 1 banking environment.
Intermediate/basic hands-on knowledge of:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and HP-UX (Optional), Compute technologies (servers, storage, virtualisation, VMs, containers & cloud),
Core operating system constructs such as memory, processor, and I/O (disk and network)
Storage technologies (SAN, NAS, DAS, SDS) and managing key storage protocols/switches like FC, ISCSI, FCoE, NFS and SMB/CIFS.
Tiering of common storage technologies and interfaces like NVMe SSDs, SAS and SATA
Commvault for backup, disaster recovery and business continuity
Scripting languages (e.g. Python, Bash)


Understanding of Storage, Network, Database, Security and Software Defined Technologies
Problem-solving, critical thinking, quick-learning, analytical, Communication and collaboration skills
Knowledge of internal business processes, leading/emerging technologies, and developments within the mobile telecommunications industry and related ecosystems
Good listener, interpersonal and organisational skills, a Strong can-do attitude and aptitude to desire innovation
Ability to follow and gain the confidence and respect of senior executives and functional leadership
Ability to cope when under intense pressure
Industry certifications (e.g. Red Hat Certified Engineer, VMware VCP, CCNA) are a plus.
