Main purpose of the role
To ensure the reliable operation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration and cooling systems supporting SABC's 24/7 operations, including server rooms, TV studios, and radio studios, which require continuous environmental control.
Key Responsibilities
Perform planned and preventative maintenance on all refrigeration and HVAC systems.
Diagnose and repair faults on chillers, AHUs, split units, and cooling systems.
Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
Monitor and maintain optimal cooling conditions for critical environments (server rooms, TV and radio studios).
Respond to breakdowns and emergencies in a 24/7 operational environment.
Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports.
Maintenance and servicing of water-cooled and air-cooled chillers up to 2.5 MW capacity.
Servicing and maintenance of Air Handling Units (AHUs).
Exposure to HVAC control systems (preferably Johnson Controls).
INHERENT/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
National Technical Certificate (N3) or equivalent qualification (NQF Level 4).
Qualified Refrigeration Artisan / Refrigeration Trade Test Certificate.
Safe Handling of Refrigerants Competency Certificate.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years' experience in refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
Technical Experience Required:
Maintenance and servicing of water-cooled and air-cooled chillers up to 2.5 MW capacity.
Experience working with Variable Speed Drives (VSDs).
Servicing and maintenance of Air Handling Units (AHUs).
Experience with split unit systems.
Experience with cold/cooled rooms.
Exposure to HVAC control systems (preferably Johnson Controls).

Additional Requirements:
Ability to work standby and after-hours as required.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
Understanding of the critical nature of continuous cooling in broadcasting environments.
