Requirements :
Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse. A post-basic nursing qualification, with a duration of at least 1 year, accredited with the SANC in Specialty (PHC). Proof of current registration with the SANC as a professional Nurse.
A minimum of 10 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. At least 6 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/ recognisable experience in Primary Health Care specialty after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification in Primary Health Care specialty.
At least 3 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/ recognisable experience at management level. Must be computer literate and have a Diploma/Degree in Health Services Management. Demonstrate a basic understanding of HR and financial policies and practices. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the legislative framework governing the public service.
Ability to direct a multi-disciplinary team and to ensure good nursing care at area/facility level. Demonstrate an in depth understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practices and how these impacts on service delivery.
Knowledge of nursing care process and procedures, nursing statuses and other relevant legal frameworks such as: Nursing Act, Health Act, Occupational and Health and Safety Act. Communication as a skill is highly expected. A qualification in Health Services Management / Nursing Administration from a recognised institution will be an added advantage.
Duties :
Manage effective running of the clinical nursing practice by the nursing team (area/facility) is rendered in accordance with the scope of practice and nursing standards as determined by the relevant health facility. Promote quality of nursing care as directed by the professional scope of practice and standards as determined by the relevant health facility.
Demonstrate effective communication with supervisors, other health professionals and support services personnel and junior colleagues, including more complex report writing when required. Work effectively and amicably, at management level, with person of diverse intellectual, cultural, racial or religious differences.
Able to manage own work and that of units reporting to post and to ensure appropriate interventions to enhance nursing service at area/facility level. Able to develop and maintaining a nursing service environment that promotes the right of patients, advocating and facilitating proper treatment and care and ensuring that principles of Batho Pele are adhered to.
Able to develop contact, build and maintain a network of professional relations in order. Delegate, Supervise and co-ordinate the provision of effective and efficient patient care through adequate nursing care. Initiate and participate in health promotion to ensure consistent communication of relevant, accurate comprehensive on health care.
Develop/ establish and maintain constructive working relationships with nursing and other stakeholders (i.e. inter-professional, inter- sectoral and multi-disciplinary teamwork) Manage. Monitor and ensure proper utilization of human, financial and physical resources. Participate in the analysis, formation and Implementation of nursing guidelines, practices, standards and procedures. The candidate is expected to relieve on night as a supervisor.
Participate in the nursing management team. Support and act on behalf of Deputy Manager as and when required. Expected to recommend advise, give information in the form of report, letter and memos.
General and strategic advice, nursing and management support. Maintain professional growth / ethical standards and self- development: SANC, nurses Day involvement, promoting the image of both nursing and hospital. Ensure compliance with the Ideal Hospital Framework, Batho Pele principles, and patient rights and Infection Prevention and Control. Contribute to managing complaints and patient safety incidents.
