JOB SUMMARY


The Plumber Officer will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of water supply and distribution systems to ensure continuous, safe, and reliable service to customers. The role involves responding to leaks and bursts, maintaining service connections, and supporting network operations to minimize water losses and service interruptions.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES


Install, repair, and maintain water supply pipelines, service connections, meters, valves, hydrants, and related fittings.
Respond to and repair pipe bursts, leaks, and other faults in the distribution network within agreed response times.
Carry out routine inspection and preventive maintenance of water infrastructure to reduce breakdowns and water losses.
Support new connections, disconnections, reconnections, and customer service requests.
Assist in pressure testing, flushing, and commissioning of new pipelines and installations.
Read and interpret simple drawings, layouts, and work orders.
Record completed works, materials used, and report faults or network issues to supervisors.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational procedures while on duty.
Provide basic guidance to customers on proper use of water connections and plumbing systems.
Work with engineers, technicians, and other field staff to support maintenance and rehabilitation projects.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Certificate or Diploma in Plumbing, Water Technology, Mechanical Engineering (craft level), or a related technical field.
Trade test or recognized plumbing certification is an added advantage.
At least [1 - 3] years of practical experience in plumbing or water supply systems, preferably in a utility or construction environment.


KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES


Strong hands-on plumbing and pipe-fitting skills.
Ability to detect, diagnose, and fix leaks, bursts, and blockages.
Physical fitness and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Basic record-keeping and reporting skills.
Willingness to work on call or outside normal working hours when required.
