Overview
The MCGL Integrated Health Project implemented by Jhpiego seeks to strengthen communitysystems that promote improved maternal, newborn, and child health outcomes.
Nutrition remains a critical component of these efforts, particularly in addressing malnutrition among infants and young children and promoting optimal maternal nutrition practices.
Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) and Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) are key strategies for managing and preventing malnutrition at the community and facility levels.
Effective implementation of these strategies requires continuous capacity strengthening of community actors and frontline health workers who are responsible for generating demand for nutrition services, promoting appropriate feeding practices, and facilitating early identification and referral of malnourished children to Outpatient Therapeutic Programme (OTP) and Stabilization Centre for treatment.
In addition, demand generation for nutrition services plays a crucial role in improving uptake of the IMAM & MIYCN services as well as the micronutrient supplementation.
Community-level actors must therefore be equipped with updated knowledge and practical skills to effectively engage mothers/caregivers, promote optimal nutrition behaviors, and support early care-seeking for nutrition services.
To strengthen these capacities, Jhpiego seeks to engage qualified IMAM and MIYCN master trainers to conduct a two-day refresher training aimed at reinforcing key concepts and approaches for promoting IMAM and MIYCN demand generation activities at the community level.
