Job Role
The CCM / Casting Operator is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of the Continuous Casting Machine (CCM) used in the production of steel products. The role involves monitoring casting operations, supporting material flow, assisting with equipment preparation, maintaining production standards, and reporting operational abnormalities.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Support safe and efficient continuous casting operations.
Maintain smooth and continuous material flow during casting.
Support achievement of production and quality targets.
Monitor casting operations and identify abnormalities.
Maintain good housekeeping within the casting area.
Comply with all safety, quality, and operational procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Continuous Casting Operations
Operate and support CCM equipment in accordance with established procedures.
Assist in preparation of the casting line before production.
Monitor the flow of molten metal and cast material during operations.
Support the casting process as directed by the CCM Supervisor.
Monitor operating conditions and report abnormalities promptly.
Assist with safe handling and movement of cast products.
Process Monitoring & Production Support
Monitor casting operations to ensure continuous production.
Observe equipment and process conditions and report deviations.
Support production teams in achieving daily output targets.
Assist with routine operational checks.
Communicate production issues to the supervisor.
Quality & Safety
Conduct basic visual checks of cast products.
Report defects or irregularities.
Follow all safety procedures when working around molten metal and high-temperature equipment.
Wear required PPE at all times.
Report hazards, accidents, and near misses immediately.
Housekeeping & Equipment Care
Maintain cleanliness and order within the casting area.
Assist with routine cleaning and equipment checks.
Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment.
Properly handle and store tools and equipment.
Teamwork & Shift Support
Work closely with furnace, rolling mill, maintenance, and quality teams.
Participate in shift handovers.
Follow instructions from supervisors and authorized personnel.
Support other production activities when required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum KCSE qualification or equivalent.
Previous experience in steel manufacturing, foundry, casting, or heavy industrial production is an added advantage.
Technical training in mechanical, electrical, production, welding, or a related field is an added advantage.
Ability to work in a hot, noisy, and physically demanding environment.
Willingness to work shifts.
