Job Summary
The Civic Education / Government / History Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in civic education, government, and history to students. The teacher will develop students' understanding of historical events, governmental systems, civic responsibilities, and critical thinking skills necessary for active citizenship and informed participation in society.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons in Civic Education, Government, and History aligned with the curriculum and educational standards
Prepare students for internal and external examinations (WAEC, NECO, JAMB, etc.)
Integrate current events and contemporary issues into lessons to make content relevant and engaging
Design and administer tests, quizzes, essays, projects, and examinations to assess student understanding
Evaluate written work, oral presentations, and research projects
Encourage critical thinking about political, social, and historical issues
Guide students in understanding how government institutions function
Qualification and Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's degree in History, Political Science, Government, International Relations, Social Studies Education, or related field (minimum requirement)
Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
Certification:
Professional registration with Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) or equivalent
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of teaching experience at secondary/high school level
Experience teaching Civic Education, Government, and/or History preferred
Demonstrated success in preparing students for WAEC, NECO, and JAMB examinations
