Role Summary
As a Graduate Trainee Civil Engineer, you will support the senior engineering team in the daily execution and monitoring of construction activities.
You will be responsible for assisting with site measurements, maintaining accurate project logs, and ensuring that works are carried out in alignment with approved drawings and safety protocols.
This position offers intensive on-site exposure and the opportunity to develop core competencies in Nigerian construction standards and project management.
Key Responsibilities
Site Assistance & Supervision:
Support Site Engineers in supervising daily construction tasks to ensure they follow approved sequences.
Assist in setting out works and verifying basic dimensions against latest approved construction drawings.
Monitor labor productivity and help coordinate subcontractor activities on-site.
Quality & Technical Support:
Assist in conducting basic site inspections to identify visible non-conformities.
Help collect material samples for testing (e.g., concrete cubes) and document test results.
Ensure that only approved materials are being utilized for site works.
HSE Compliance:
Assist in enforcing Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) protocols among site workers.
Report any identified site risks or safety violations to the Site Engineer immediately.
Documentation & Resource Tracking:
Maintain the daily site diary, recording weather, labor headcount, and progress milestones.
Track daily material deliveries and consumption to help prevent shortages.
Help maintain an organized file of site instructions and approved drawing revisions.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Learning & Adaptation: Successful completion of assigned technical training modules within the first 3 months.
Documentation Accuracy: 100% accuracy in daily site logs and material tracking records.
Safety Support: Zero safety incidents resulting from failure to report a known hazard.
Technical Support: Providing 100% assistance in verifying dimensions for all assigned site sections.
Requirements
Education: BSc or HND in Civil Engineering or Building Technology.
Experience: 0 - 1 year of experience (National Youth Service Corps - NYSC members are encouraged to apply).
Certifications: Relevant student or graduate memberships in professional bodies (e.g., NSE, COREN) are an advantage.
Location: Ability to work on-site in Lagos.
