Role Summary
As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the strategic planning, coordination, and monitoring of construction project activities.
You will serve as the technical bridge between management and site teams, ensuring that all works align with approved engineering drawings, budgets, and timelines.
This position requires a professional with strong planning abilities, technical documentation skills, and the capacity to coordinate multi-disciplinary stakeholders effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Coordination:
Develop comprehensive project work plans, execution strategies, and construction schedules in collaboration with Project Managers.
Deconstruct project scopes into clear phases, tasks, milestones, and deliverables.
Monitor project timelines continuously to identify and mitigate resource constraints or delays.
Technical Documentation & Drawings:
Conduct rigorous reviews of engineering drawings, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and design specifications.
Prepare and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical queries directed at architects or consultants.
Maintain and control the distribution of the latest approved construction drawings and site instructions.
Cost & Resource Management:
Assist in budgeting, preliminary quantity take-offs, and rigorous cost tracking.
Coordinate the procurement of materials based on approved BOQs and project schedules.
Validate all supplier quotes against technical specifications to ensure value and compliance.
Quality Assurance & Standards:
Enforce strict adherence to engineering standards, building codes, and project-specific technical requirements.
Review and approve material quality submissions, samples, and test results before site application.
Perform periodic site inspections with Site Engineers to verify that "as-built" progress matches approved designs.
Site Support & Reporting:
Provide technical guidance to Site Engineers regarding construction sequencing, methodology, and design interpretation.
Resolve technical site issues in real-time and coordinate all testing and commissioning procedures.
Prepare and submit weekly and monthly project progress reports and maintain project dashboards.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Your performance will be measured against the following targets:
Schedule Compliance: ≥ 90% of project milestones achieved within planned timelines.
Cost Control: Maintain a variance of <5% between planned budgets and actual costs.
Technical Turnaround: Process RFIs, drawing reviews, and technical submissions within 48 - 72 hours.
Quality Compliance: ≤ 2 major non-conformities identified during monthly technical inspections.
Documentation Accuracy: 100% of construction drawings on-site must be the latest approved revisions.
Requirements
Education: BSc or HND in Civil Engineering, Building Technology, or a related field.
Experience: 3 - 5 years of verifiable experience in project engineering or site management.
Certifications: Additional professional certifications (e.g., COREN, PMP, or HSE) are a significant advantage.
Location: Ability to work on-site at various project locations in Lagos.
