Duties and Responsibilities

Data Collection & Field Surveys:


Establish, maintain, and verify the primary and secondary survey control networks (benchmarks, control points) across the entire project site.
Conduct detailed topographical surveys of undeveloped land parcels to provide accurate data for master planning, infrastructure design, and architectural development.
Carry out engineering surveys to support the design of roads, drainage, water, and other utilities, capturing all necessary features and levels.
Perform pre-construction surveys to verify site conditions and existing features before works commence.


Construction & Setting Out:


Provide precise setting out for all construction activities, including building gridlines, road alignments, infrastructure corridors, foundation locations, and finished levels.
Work directly with the construction and contractor's survey teams to ensure all setting out is accurate and clearly marked on site.
Conduct periodic checks during construction to verify verticality of high-rise structures, alignment of infrastructure, and dimensional accuracy of works.
Resolve any on-site discrepancies between design drawings and actual site conditions in coordination with the field engineering team.


Data Processing & Reporting:


Process raw survey data using specialized software to produce clear, accurate survey drawings, reports, and digital terrain models (DTMs).
Prepare and maintain a comprehensive, up-to-date digital and physical archive of all survey records, field notes, and final drawings.
Perform volumetric calculations for earthworks (cut and fill) based on topographical and as-built survey data to support quantity verification.
Conduct as-built surveys of completed works to create accurate records of the final position and level of all infrastructure and buildings.


Quality Assurance & Compliance:


Implement and manage a robust QA/QC program for all survey activities to ensure the highest levels of accuracy and precision.
Regularly calibrate and maintain all survey equipment (Total Stations, GPS/GNSS, Levels) to ensure optimal performance and accuracy.
Ensure all survey and mapping activities are conducted in accordance with Kenyan survey regulations and international best practices.


Requirements


Education: A bachelor's degree or diploma in Land Surveying, Geomatics Engineering, or a related field is essential.
Professional Registration: Professional registration with the relevant statutory body (e.g., Institution of Surveyors of Kenya - ISK) is highly advantageous.
Experience: A minimum of 8-10 years of direct, post-graduate experience as a land surveyor on large-scale civil infrastructure or building construction projects.
Technical Proficiency (Equipment): Expert, hands-on proficiency in operating modern survey equipment, including Robotic Total Stations, RTK GPS/GNSS systems, and Digital Levels.
Technical Proficiency (Software): High-level proficiency in survey data processing and drafting software is mandatory. This must include AutoCAD Civil 3D and relevant survey data processing software (e.g., Trimble Business Center, Leica Infinity).
Codes and Standards: Strong working knowledge of local survey regulations and standard survey practices.
