Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Patient Management
Conduct comprehensive patient consultations to assess symptoms, review medical histories, and determine diagnostic requirements.
Diagnose and manage gastrointestinal disorders including Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, and other digestive conditions.
Prescribe and oversee diagnostic tests (blood tests, stool analysis, imaging studies) to support clinical decision-making.
Perform and interpret investigative endoscopic procedures (colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, upper endoscopy, ERCP).
Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating medication management, dietary guidance, and, when necessary, surgical referrals.
Provide long-term care and support for patients with chronic gastrointestinal conditions.
Procedures & Interventions
Execute therapeutic endoscopic interventions with precision and care.
Assist in or supervise gastrointestinal-related surgical procedures as required.
Collaborate effectively with dietitians, radiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
Research, Training & Professional Development
Actively participate in Continuous Medical Education (CME) activities, including conferences and workshops.
Mentor and supervise medical officers, nurses, endoscopy staff, and other clinical staff to foster a culture of excellence.
Conduct clinical research and contribute to medical literature on gastrointestinal diseases and treatment innovations.
Engage in quality improvement initiatives within the gastroenterology department.
Client Experience & Data Protection
Ensure a superior patient and client experience by delivering compassionate, patient-centered care and clear communication throughout the treatment process.
Uphold best practices in data protection by maintaining the confidentiality and security of patient records, in strict compliance with hospital policies, the Kenya Medical and Dental Council regulations, and applicable data protection laws.
Engage with patients to provide them with detailed information on their treatment plans while safeguarding their personal and medical data.
Compliance & Ethical Standards
Maintain meticulous and confidential patient records in line with all medical regulations.
Adhere strictly to hospital policies, the Kenya Medical and Dental Council regulations, and ethical guidelines.
Promote best practices in patient safety and the delivery of high-quality care.
Job Requirements Education & Professional Qualifications
Medical degree (MBChB or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
Master's degree in Internal Medicine
Fellowship in Gastroenterology from a recognized Centre or institution.
Valid medical license and registration with the Kenya Medical and Dental Council.
Specialist Recognition by KMPDC as a gastroenterolgist
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years post-fellowship experience in a high-volume gastroenterology/endoscopy unit.
Demonstrated expertise in performing both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
Experience in training and mentoring medical personnel is highly desirable.
