Key Purpose Statement
The primary role of the Control and Automation Specialist is to maintain the plant and associated devices to original installed state. In doing so, the specialist must ensure that plant availability and product quality is maintained at optimal cost; without sacrificing standards. He or she will also be required to provide continuous improvement initiatives that would enable more cost-effective manufacturing in a highly competitive market. The role also entails the need to provide coaching within his or her field of expertise to develop the skills of other technical peers.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Key Outputs and Accountabilities include, but not limited to:
Technical Operational Support:
Provide expert support during operations and problem-solving, including shift-based and on-call assistance.
Guide and mentor shift teams on machine operation, fault-finding, and response to failures.
Planned and Routine
Maintenance:
Contribute to maintenance planning, execution, and optimization, including scheduling and feedback on completed tasks.
Ensure integrity and alignment of maintenance systems with regional asset care strategies and standards.
Perform routine maintenance tasks as per the schedule and address issues using problem-solving techniques.
Monitor conditions and communicate necessary updates to the maintenance planner.
Running Repairs:
Conduct and support running repairs on equipment, including problem assessment and external specialist coordination.
Complete administration and ensure repair tasks are planned if not resolved immediately.
Problem Solving:
Utilize appropriate problem-solving methods and resources, assisting team members and escalating issues when necessary.
Engage in situational and systemic problem-solving as a functional expert.
Housekeeping and Safety:
Adhere to safety practices, identify unsafe practices, and conduct risk assessments.
Apply 5S principles and follow CCBA policies during housekeeping and work execution.
Support NPD Implementation and Trials:
Assist with NPD trials, ensuring asset readiness and adherence to procedures.
Document changes and updates according to Engineering Change Management processes.
Training and Development:
Train and coach PA's and Operators on asset care and autonomous maintenance practices.
Develop and update operational and technical standards and work instructions.
Skills, Experience & Education
Education & Experience:
Degree in Mechatronics Engineering (preferred)/ Control & Instrumentation/ Electrical & Electronics.
At least 3-5 years of work experience in Controls, Instrumentation and Automation
Experience in FMCG an added advantage
Skills:
PLC programming software training
Problem solving
Training, Development & Coaching for Technical Teams.
Utilizes coaching skills to mentor and develop team members in operational and technical practices.
Demonstrates strong diagnostic ability to effectively identify and resolve equipment issues.

HMI development / programming software training.
PC literacy essential - Microsoft packages.
Knowledge of ERP (D365).
