Job Summary


The early years assistant supports the lead teacher in creating a welcoming, safe, and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
This role is vital to the smooth functioning of the classroom, helping to manage daily routines, engage children in learning activities, and ensure each child receives personalized attention and care.
The assistant acts as an additional caring adult, reinforcing the teacher's instructional aims and nurturing the well-being of every child.


Key Responsibilities


Assist the teacher in planning and implementing daily activities and lesson plans.
Supervise children during play, meals, rest periods, and transitions.
Support children's social and emotional growth by modelling positive behaviour and guiding conflict resolution.
Help prepare and organise classroom materials, learning centers, and activity spaces.
Provide individual or small group support during instructional activities, ensuring all children are engaged.
Monitor safety and cleanliness in the classroom, including sanitising toys, surfaces, and supplies.
Aid children in personal care tasks such as handwashing, toileting, dressing, and feeding.
Observe and report children's behaviour, progress, and any concerns to the teacher.
Communicate respectfully and effectively with children, families, and staff.
Participate in classroom routines, including greeting children, organising snack time, and leading games or songs.
Encourage children's independence and self-help skills in everyday tasks.


Qualifications


Secondary School Certificate, NCE or equivalent (additional coursework in early childhood education preferred).
Experience working with preschool-aged children, preferably ages 3-4, in an educational setting. CPR and First Aid certification (is required).
Ability to follow instructions, work collaboratively, and demonstrate initiative. Patience, flexibility, and a strong commitment to nurturing young children.
