Job Purpose


Provide technical input in road and highway design, construction, maintenance, and safety through preparation of designs, supervision of works, quality assurance, feasibility studies, and data collection to support sustainable and compliant road infrastructure in line with the Roads Act.


Job Description


Developing preliminary designs and preparing working drawings for the construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of roads and highway structures;
Taking part in supervising roads and structures works;
Taking part undertaking quality assurance, technical, performance and road safety audits and assessments;
Preparing quantity take off sheets, cost estimates and tender documentation for roads and structures works;
Taking part in implementation of road safety engineering programs and risk management activities;
Taking part in feasibility studies and environmental social impact assessment to determine viability for development of roads infrastructure;
Collecting and collating data for scoping and research; and
Compiling and collating data pertaining to road works and iinventory;
Taking part in enforcement of axle load limits as set out in the national and regional laws pertaining to vehicle loading;
Assist in processing of exemption permits for abnormal loads;
Assist in identifying of PPP pipeline projects;
Taking part in screening of PPP pipeline projects;
Collecting data for traffic, pavement and roadside developments;
Taking part in the development of the Road Asset Management System (RAMS).


Job Specifications

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:


Bachelor of Science or Engineering Degree in any of the following disciplines: Civil Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;
Registration by Engineers Board of Kenya as a Graduate Engineer; and
Proficiency in Computer applications.
