PURPOSE OF POSITION


The Enrolled Nurse will be responsible for the assessment, care and meeting of patient needs and will also be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of appropriate programmes of care to ensuring high quality patient care. Nursing activities form part of a nursing regime that is planned and initiated by the Registered Nurse. The incumbent is held accountable for his/her own acts and omissions.


KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS


Ensure that all documentation is maintained timeously and accurately, reflecting patient care.
Ensure stock is controlled.
Implement governance, quality and risk management
Maintain a therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards.
Responsible for the care of equipment.
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Acts in a supervisory capacity over ENA's.
Contribute to the holistic care of patients.
Participate in ward/unit's quality improvement programme.
Practice the principles of infection prevention and Health & Safety, and report risks identified.
Carry out all departmental duties as assigned by supervisors.
Personal and professional development to maintain a satisfactory level of skill and knowledge.
Build and maintain stakeholder relationships
Develop collaborative relationships and actively participate as a team member to accomplish work goals.
Practice within the scope of practice as an Enrolled Nurse.
Competent with the Hospital's Policies and Regulations.
Attend to patient's complaints and escalate promptly as required.
Must be able to provide safe, quality patient care within the ward/unit.
Comply with SANC and stakeholder legislation.


COMPETENCIES (The following will be advantageous)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

(Educational Qualifications & Experience)


Must be registered with SANC as an Enrolled Nurse with valid APC.
Preferably have two or more years of experience as an Enrolled Nurse in a hospital setting.
Experience in surgical ward will be advantageous.
Must be prepared to do shift work (Night shift / Day Shift).
Must be computer literate - MS Word & Excel.
Good interpersonal skills with doctors, patients and colleagues are essential.

Must be able to work independently under minimum supervision.
Excellent observation skills.
