About the Department

The Economics and Business Administration Department at Ashesi University is committed to developing ethically grounded, entrepreneurial business and policy leaders. Our approach blends theory with practical experience, preparing students to excel in the African business environment and beyond. The Department runs two undergraduate programmes: BSc Business Administration and BSc Economics. It will soon launch its first graduate programme, MBA.

 

The Department of Economics and Business Administration invites applications for a senior faculty position (full Professor/Associate Professor) in Economics. We seek candidates with a proven record of publications in top-tier economics journals and a proven record of excellent teaching and junior faculty mentorship.


About the Role:

The candidate must have extensive experience in conducting simulations and running forecast models. Successfully obtained and managed external grants and funding. Additionally, the candidate must have active engagements with professional communities and contribute to the development of an academic unit through significant and sustained service roles.

Contract Type: Full-Time Academic


Key Responsibilities

  1. Teaching and Curriculum Development:
  • Teach undergraduate core and elective courses in Economics.
  • Develop and update syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments that reflect current economic trends and research.
  • Use various teaching strategies to enhance student learning, including case studies, simulations, and forecast models.
  • Develop and administer assessments, exams, and evaluations to gauge students' understanding and progress, providing constructive feedback to promote continuous improvement.
  • Maintain records of enrolled students' progression, examination, and assessment.

 

  1. Research and Scholarship:
  • Conduct and publish high-quality research in reputable and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Seek research funding opportunities and manage research projects.
  • Supervise student research projects, thesis and capstones at the undergraduate level.
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences.
  • Foster an active research environment by engaging students and colleagues in collaborative projects.

 

  1. Industry Engagement:
  • Collaborate with industry partners to ensure the curriculum remains relevant to current economic trends.
  • Lead initiatives such as guest lectures, workshops, and networking opportunities with professional institutions and support the Ashesi Economics Lecture Series.

 

  1. Department-related Activities:
  • Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum planning, and other departmental activities.
  • Contribute to the development of economics-related initiatives within the department.


 Qualifications and Skills:

  • Full Professor in Economics.
  • PhD in Economics.
  • Able to obtain and manage external grants and funding.
  • Active engagements with relevant professional societies.
  • Proven record of excellent research and teaching.
  • Proven record of faculty development.

  • A description of your vision of research and research support for faculty and students.
  • Copies of three published research articles in top-tier economic journals
  • Evidence of external grant (at least 1) sourced within the past 5 years
  • Research Statement, Teaching Philosophy, Teaching Statement, and Teaching Evaluations.
  • Tentative Research Program for the economics faculty and students of the Department of Economics and Business Administration
