Job Role


The Grading & Quality Control Assistant supports the inspection, grading, sorting, and quality monitoring of steel products throughout the production process. The role assists in identifying product defects, verifying product characteristics, maintaining quality records, and ensuring products are appropriately graded and handled.


PURPOSE OF THE ROLE


Support consistent product quality.
Assist with inspection and grading of steel products.
Identify and report product defects and irregularities.
Support accurate quality records and documentation.
Minimize defective products and material losses.
Ensure compliance with established quality procedures.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Product Inspection & Grading


Assist in inspecting finished and semi-finished steel products.
Conduct visual checks for defects and irregularities.
Assist in sorting and grading products according to established requirements.
Identify products that do not meet required specifications.
Report quality concerns to the supervisor.


Quality Monitoring


Support quality checks during production.
Assist with measurement and verification activities as directed.
Monitor product appearance, dimensions, and other specified characteristics.
Support segregation of non-conforming products.


Documentation & Reporting


Assist in recording inspection and grading results.
Maintain accurate quality records.
Report recurring defects and quality issues.
Support preparation of basic quality reports.


Coordination


Work closely with production, rolling mill, casting, and dispatch teams.
Communicate quality concerns promptly.
Support implementation of corrective actions as directed.


Safety & Housekeeping


Follow all workplace safety procedures.
Wear required PPE.
Maintain clean and organized inspection areas.
Handle inspection tools and equipment appropriately.


Qualification


Minimum KCSE qualification or equivalent.
Certificate or Diploma in Quality Control, Production, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field is an added advantage.
Previous experience in steel manufacturing, metal processing, quality control, or production is an advantage.
Basic measurement and record-keeping skills.
