Job description
What's the role
To measure, analyse and improve the hospital's clinical and operational workflows — patient journeys, waiting times, bed turnover and throughput — so that gains in efficiency and service quality are delivered, evidenced and sustained.
What you'll be doing
Map and analyse end-to-end patient journeys across outpatient, inpatient, emergency, theatre, diagnostics and pharmacy, identifying delays, bottlenecks, rework and avoidable steps.
Define, instrument and maintain the hospital's operational performance measures, including waiting times, length of stay, bed turnover and occupancy, theatre utilisation, laboratory, imaging and pharmacy turnaround times, and clinic throughput.
Extract, validate and analyse data from the hospital information system and departmental records, and investigate data-quality gaps at source.
Design and run improvement projects using recognised methods — Lean, Six Sigma, PDSA cycles, demand and capacity analysis — with measurable baselines and post-implementation comparison.
Conduct time-and-motion, queue and capacity studies, and build demand and capacity models for clinics, beds and theatre lists.
Produce and present operational dashboards and analytical reports to department heads and executive management.
Draft, test and revise standard operating procedures and workflow documentation arising from improvement work.
Facilitate workshops with clinical and non-clinical staff to design, test and embed process changes.
Monitor performance after implementation and escalate where gains are not sustained.
Support regulatory, accreditation and quality-assurance reporting with validated operational data.
Requirements
A relevant first degree in industrial or systems engineering, statistics, data science, health information management, health sciences, operations management, economics, or a related quantitative discipline. Completion of NYSC, or a valid exemption where applicable.
Minimum of 4 years' relevant experience in process analysis, operations improvement, performance management or healthcare analytics.
Demonstrated experience of process mapping and workflow redesign.
Experience working with operational data sets and producing analytical reports for management decision-making.
Evidence of at least one documented improvement project delivered with measurable outcomes.
Experience in a hospital or healthcare delivery setting, with working familiarity of patient flow, clinic scheduling or bed management.
