Purpose of the Position
The IT/Communication Assistant will provide technical ICT support and assist in managing internal and external communications to ensure smooth operations, information security, and visibility of the organization's activities in line with UN and donor communication standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Information Technology (IT) Support
Provide first-level technical support for computers, printers, internet connectivity, and office software.
Assist with installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware, software, and network systems.
Support data backup procedures and ensure compliance with information security and data protection policies.
Maintain IT inventory, asset tracking, and documentation.
Support staff in the use of email systems, collaboration platforms, and digital tools.
Report and escalate ICT issues to the supervisor or external service providers as required.
Communication Support
Support the development and dissemination of communication materials (reports, briefs, flyers, social media posts, and presentations).
Assist in managing the organization's website, social media platforms, and mailing lists in line with branding guidelines.
Support documentation of project activities, including photos, short videos, and success stories (with informed consent).
Ensure visibility requirements of donors and UN partners are met.
Support internal communications, including staff updates and information sharing.
General Responsibilities
Adhere to organizational policies, including safeguarding, PSEA, data protection, and code of conduct.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
Education
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Communications, Mass Communication, or a related field.
Experience
Minimum of 2-3 years relevant experience in IT support and/or communications, preferably with an NGO, UN agency, or humanitarian organization.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Basic networking and troubleshooting skills.
Experience with social media management and digital communication tools.
Basic graphic design skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite) are an asset.
Familiarity with data protection and information security principles is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in English/Hausa (written and spoken) required.
Knowledge of local languages is an asset.
